What should I upgrade for towing with my 35d?

Just finished installing a new stealth hitch in my X5. Best looking hitch I've ever had by the way.
Wiring harness is installed and programmed. Ready to tow or am I?
My boat on trailer is about 4800lbs.
Are there upgrades I should be doing for better towing?
I've seen a lot about egr deletes but I'm kinda concerned about legality. Will it come back on me if I take it to a dealership for any work? What about a chip? Racechip.us seems to promise good results without ecm programming.
Do I need to upgrade shocks, brakes? Mine is a 7 seat so I do have the self-leveling air suspension.

Appreciate any insights and suggestions.

Be sure you have a decent brake controller, extended mirrors if needed, and head to the lake. No other mods needed.

Don't waste your money on engine mods, they aren't necessary for towing.

Like the other said, make sure you have a brake controller, prodigy wireless works okay. Above 3500lbs trailer weight many states require a brake controller, and you'll be glad to have trailer brakes that work.

Also, make sure your hitch weight does not exceed you tongue weight capacity on your X5, 600lbs. Also make sure you aren't overloading your axels, or payload capacity. You won't hurt your SAV but you will accelerate wear of the shocks, bearings, brakes and etc.

P.S. your trailer is light enough it shouldn't be a problem for the SAV.

Agree with thecastle. I just installed a hitch on mine to tow a smal. Light seadoo jet boat. Dont olan on hauling much heavy with this but will need to tow with it. If you plan to tow anything heavy get a 3/4 or 1 ton pick up. How did u install your wiring harness?

The wiring harness came with the stealth hitch. They also provided remote programming to eliminate the back up alarm when a hitch is connected and zoom option for the back up camera.

My boat trailer has a surge brake controller so I shouldn't need a brake controller in the car. But appreciate the suggestion for the future

Nice. Thanks for the answer. I just opted for a non splice wiring kit from a brand I've grown to trust over previous years. That sounds pretty sweet though.

If you don't have airbags in the back, there are products you can buy and stuff inside the springs and run an air fitting somewhere near the hitch. On my list of things to get, so no personal experience (yet). Although I have heard others praise them.

Fortunately I've already got the self-leveling air suspension because it's a seven seater.
