I moved my entire apartment with my X5 and my partner's CRV this weekend, other than the big furniture. My starter is finally starting to free spin too often, and I ordered a starter and Crank position sensor to do while I'm at it. I should try to get asap.

Unfortunately, the new apt means no more covered parking for the time being. When the X5 is parked and I'm driving my ZHP, it will be covered at least. On the plus side, I'm only 11 minutes from my parents house, which means access to a hose and ability to wash my cars on a regular basis! Going to try to get in the habit of every 2 weeks.

In other news, I'm fianlly able to start my N54 e46 wagon project. I have the donor, which needs a clutch job. I have the nearly completely rust free wagon. Going to start that job as soon as I have a free moment.

Coded in the trailer back up camera option.
Makes it so much easier hooking up to a trailer.

Had a wife’s friend’s husband install a new AC compressor because Ac wasn’t working. Turns out it was fine and it’s likely just the High Pressure Sensor. So ordering that now. But since their install, now getting P0463, P206& and P112F codes. And fuel shows low even though we jus your $85 bucks in. Check engine light on. Help please!

BMW X5 E70 N55 Vacuum Pump

Hey all,

I'm replacing my vacuum pump on my new (to me) E70/N55 SUV. I am having a problem getting the camshaft sprocket to align to the bolt holes. Any advice?? Essentially, I'm stuck at about 6:40 min into this video:

Thanks for your help!!!!

Cleaned up door window after smash and grab

Someone broke into my 50i and stole my wife's purse. What a way to start a morning. Wish I could have seen these guys. They cost me more than they made. But we have to hide two cars because those curs made off with 2 car fobs & her DL with our address.

Condolences, people do truly suck sometimes, especially these days. Some steal purses, some steal cars, some steal investments, some steal pensions... is what it is. :

This is 20/20 obviously, but we keep virtually nothing in our cars for this very reason (microfibers and a USB cord are about it). Good luck getting your sense of security/violation back to a nominal state. Took us awhile too when door checkers opened one of our cars (wife's) one night on video. At least they went off with just a BMW cover. We never leave those in there... but did this time. Of course. $200 lesson. Another time on an older car they did break a window to steal an old $30 radio though... I forgot to remove the faceplate.

Well at least my wallet was hidden. They could have wiped us completely out if they had found it. But, just got my wife's oversized backpack. We've been parking over there for 18 years without incident, so we got a little sloppy. Extra vigilant now.

Yikes… this is why my first mod is always window tint. Not that it prevents it but it sure does make it much more difficult, something a thief doesn't usually have much time for…

I tried to do something to my e70 today.
An e70 with automatic tailgate was posted at the scrapyard on Saturday.

It’s only been 3 days since and I figured who else is looking for this system? It’s still gotta be there!

Drove 30 miles and the shocks anD HKL were gone. They left the button behind, so I got that, but it was still disappointing…

I got lucky when our trans went out (E clutch bearing failure) and found an 80k mile replacement 6hp28x for $800. Used my EGS and had our VB rebuilt for good measure, used the low-mileage torque converter and it's been hunky dory since.

Edit: And I realize you are in Switzerland, but above pricing was just an example using USD and our situation.
Update: found a machine shop able to weld the gearbox...but no garage willing to remove the gearbox and have my car sitting there waiting for the box to be refitted

I tried it in Germany too, so called specialised gear shops...seriously guys? Got answers like: Impossible/No time/Can you source the gearbox/ Perhaps in 6 months... give me a break, one who could have helped asked for 2k more than the best specialist here in Switzerland.

Monday I will take my truck there, a new gearbox will be ordered and fitted, price tag is 3250 CHF, should additional work be required, we will be informed in due time and given a new quote.
Keep your fingers crossed guys !

What mods?
A lot of things were done with my car.

I will make a list, in case of any questions we can go deep dive.

2. VRSF Stainless Steel Race Downpipe - https://www.vr-speed.com/vrsf-3-5-st...e71-x5-x6.html

8. xHP STAGE 3 transmission flash - https://www.xhpflashtool.com

9. Custom Tune of DME - Local tuner (previously MHD Stage 2+ was used, but that local tuner knows his job )

10. Oil catch Can (Not related to HP gain, but still must do from my POV.)

I think that's it, if I missed something I will add it later.

Thanks for the list and links.

That’s a lot of parts for 400WHP.
Is that the most the tuner could get? Or a preservative tune?

My N54 E90 made 385WHP on downpipes, DCI and 20% e85, and ~15 PSI.
It now hits ~18PSI and that feels decently fast.

Obtaining similar HP in the x5 for a lot more doesn’t seem worth it now if all I can squeeze out is 400WHP.

We can get out more than 400WHP but you know n55 is not as strong as n54. N54 is better and easier to tune and gain more WHP with less effort. On the other hand, n55 has a non-forged crankshaft, it can simply blow up at the higher WHP gain.

So the rule is, if you want to gain a lot of WHP with less effort and not blow your engine, stick with n54.

Got hit by a drunk driver on the highway. The guy thought he could fit between me and a pickup as we were side by side. I ended up moving over once I saw he was actually trying split us probably going 100. He ended up smashing into the bedside of the pickup bouncing off and hit my passenger door, running us both off the road.
Idiot tried to run but I chased him down and followed him off the exit to cut him off at a light. By chance an off duty cop was around and saw me chasing him down, which coincidentally I knew lol. Eventually caught up to us after I stopped him and called in both towns PDs to take care of it since it happen in one city and I stopped him in another. Wish I took pics of his car… but he was driving a chevy cruze thinking he could get away from me lol. What a crazy night.
