Anyone have Issues Using Costco Gas in X5m?
Are all top tier gas the same? Reason I ask I am thinking about using Costco Gas for a long time but was hesitant being that it is a wholesale club. However I just realized Costco is a Top Tier gas brand.

Generally unless you have an aggressive map; the car conforms to US regulations and can run on regular fuel. Premium is recommended by BMW. I personally only use Shell V-Power but that's because I'm from Europe and we're snobby about such things. Also there's one near my house. Hope that helps.

I hardly believe you're going to find a difference between costco and chevron gas, other than a lighter wallet. If we're talking e85... Then I would believe one station is better than another, but not based on brand, more so turn over and water absorption.
I almost believe this is a perpetuated myth going on decades. Almost like the old saying that shouldn't store car batteries on a concrete floor.... |

many many moons ago, batteries didn't have the rigid plastic casing that they have now.
As such, putting it on the floor, the acid would seep through the casing, and allow for some conductivity, thus over time your battery would discharge a lot quicker, like measured in weeks, rather than a number of months when stored on a block of wood or a shelf. For at least 20yrs+, batteries have been in a very rigid plastic case (which is all I remember as a 1st time driver), that eliminated this issue. These days a battery could be in a few inches of water and still be fine. But I still see people put a battery on wood, rather than concrete. Not uncommon in an old service station, next to the battery charger equipment, to see some blocks of wood laying around.

Food for thought: only real argument here could be ethanol content that has been debated to cause premature issues on injectors.
Key point is debate, not hard proof, so it is all up to the owner on your risk tolerance level. |

From my experience, there is a bit of performance difference between them, however the biggest difference I noticed is in fuel economy, I average around 400+ kms between fill up, and I find Shell V-power in the city i live in gives the greatest range, around 20-30kms more per tank. The shell in my area is 91 and does not contain ethanol

True, but when I go to BC where they have Chevron with 94 and no ethanol, my mileage goes down. So that doesn't make much sense either

Local fuels (both gasoline and diesel) comes from the same supplier. In the case of gasoline, each company's proprietary mix of detergents are mixed to make branded premium (Shell VPower, BP Invigorate, Chevron Techron, etc). Costco and the likes who claim Top Tier but with no brand just buys it from other branded Top Tier detergents and mixes it to their premium.

I have a 50i and the needle rarely is at full after filling up - always seems to be 1 line/dash below Full.

I just put $75 in the M and $80 in the 50i...seems like in the 50i the needle goes a lot closer to the full line than it does in the M. In all my other 3 and 7 series I used to have, I remember the needle always went all the way up when full...I guess it might be an X5 thing

I actually never fill my tank all the way to full. I usually do half or 3/4 of a tank. My theory? Less weight in the vehicle, better performance...

40 pounds in a 5000+ lb vehicle, or less than 1% of the total weight... Not going to make a difference my friend. Sorry to burst your bubble, you're just making more frequent trips to the gas station.

Haha... In all reality, with me working from home, I drive less than 500 miles a month. Which means that I don't need to fill up very often! It seriously makes me wonder if just leasing a car might make more sense for me. |
