N63/S63 HPFP Issues

Has anybody seen any issues with their HPFP? Looks like mine on bank 2 is only reaching 83 BAR instead of the 124 BAR spec. Loss of power is consistent with this failure. Dealer might blame injectors but the real problem lies with the HPFP and the rail pressure needs to be checked to diagnose this problem. Low pressure was fine at 5 BAR and bank 1 HPFP was also seeing pressures that were within spec.

Funny you mentioned this, because my M was in the shop last week and they diagnosed the LPFP and some fuel lines from what I could tell from the service ticket. Since the Velos tune was removed after they reprogrammed the engine it's definitely slower so I can't say if this solved anything. Wish they would have went ahead with replacing the injectors as well...

Bumping an old thread. I got the dreaded "Engine Malfunction - Reduced Power" indicator over the weekend on my X5 50i. The next time I started it up I got long cranks (I know, that's what she said ). I had a service appointment today and they replaced the HPFP. Shocker! A HPFP failure on a turbo BMW car! On my old 07 335i I had three such failures so I pretty much knew what it was going to be. Anyone else experiencing this?

The 335's definitely had more HPFP issues than the X's, but yes still a problem. HPFP replacement was part of, or perhaps added later (can't recall which) to the N63 campaign last year…I didn't have any issues but had them replaced under that campaign. I had the work done a few months after the initial N63 work, that's why I seem to recall it being added later?

Had to replace both pumps in my M ... started failing with longer cranks and going into limp mode, eventually never went out of it till I replaced them.

They are a really simple fix if your out of warranty (took me 15 minutes) and only costs about $280 in parts.

yep, there is a proactive recall for many N63 vehicles. I got mine replaced last may.

Geez there's a recall for this? I bought this for my wife a few years ago as a cpo and the hpfps were not replaced. Shouldn't they have done this before selling it? I've owned mostly M cars and 3ers and am familiar with the issues with those cars but not so much on the X5s. Looks like I need to do a little research. Thanks for the heads up.

Well the light came back on during testing. Now they're saying its a cracked vacuum hose. I love these cars but they sure are temperamental.

Curious if anyone has replaced the hpfp themselves on their x5M? Any tips on doing it? Any diy or write ups? Much appreciated
