Resolved: Crankcase vent hose cracked...Cylinder 4 misfire on WOT

Hi all,

Recently i started going in to limp mode when flooring the truck. Every time it happens, i run the diagnostic and I'm getting Cylinder 4 misfire, nothing else. Had the injectors replaced 5k miles ago. Should i swap out the spark plug for that cylinder? Boost leak would cause the same cylinder to misfire consistently?

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

UPDATE

Hoses are all cracked and just falling apart. Any reason i cant mock up some hoses out of fuel lines and secure them with worm clamps? The oem hoses are the cheapest shit i've ever seen in my life. Was the quality of a 99 cent toy.

Resolution

I replaced the hoses with OEM parts as it was just too much of a pita mocking up the proper length. Easy process. Was 280 each for the 13717848152 and 60 for the hose that sits on top of the engine.

Misfire was caused by a faulty coil, replaced and its back to beast mode. It was actually shaking and running sloppy for a while. Gonna replace the other 7 this weekend. Took about 10 mins to replace the toughest to get to coil on cyl 4. Removed the coolant overflow mount and set it aside, did the same with the vacuum reservoir then flipped up the cap on the coil, put a screwdriver through the cap loop and pulled it out with medium force. Then jammed the new on in, plugged it in and pushed the cap down to secure.

Thanks for the advice guys, hopefully this thread can be a reference to others.

Start with just the coil - that will be easier and is just as likely to be faulty.

Thanks, will do. I'm due for plugs as I'm at 55k as well. I'll swap coils 3 and 4 to see if the issue moves with the coil.

Wow, I thought mine were bad when I replaced them last weekend. Mine were leaking and able to be spun from almost every joint.

From reading other threads on the CCV system, I believe the ribbed design of the OEM hose is deliberate and helps separate the oil, so the system may not work as intended with smooth hose. I’d defer to others more knowledgeable though.

I bit the bullet and replaced all hoses for $600, dealer near me had them on hand.

Thanks greddy91, it was indeed the coil. Replaced and it's running like a beast now. Took literally 10 minutes.

Hey. I keep getting the misfire on cylinder 6 on my X5M E70. installed new coil a year ago, as I thought it was from the coil. made no difference, replaced all vacuum hoses (4), then it worked for a while, now it's kind of bad, I cant really go up a hill or do anything but baby it. You think it's the coil again? Like how much are the good coils that I need to get? Mine cost about $100 like a year and a half ago. Or could it be some other broken piece of a hose somewhere that I cant see?

Also, what are the location of each of the cylinders on the X5M motor? I forgot how that went, and I may have changed the wrong coil?

chris604 Did you ever resolve this? I have the same exact problem on just Cyl 6.

E70 X5m PVC Valve Replacement

Hey
I've tried replacing the two pvc valves on my 2012 X5m but cannot get to the two torx bolts under the intercooler pipes. Any suggestions? Do i need to remove the intercooler pipes that feed the turbos to get to these two bolts?

Cheers:

Removing the center plastic pipe housing is the easiest way, I did it once with a small bit taped to fit snug in the end of a wrench, but it took ages. Good to get better silicone hoses and better clamps on those boost lines as well I think.
Oh, and you dont have to remove the diverter valves, just unplug the connectors and hoses.
