Geez, sounds like it probably isn't for a 6ft 230lb guy to do then...

I don't have a lift, but might be able to get access to one on a base in the area. Which pump do you have and did you swap all of the internal gaskets and sealing sleeves as well? I heard it mentioned the mechatronic is heavy and you get the fluid all over, did you do that as well? Trying to build confidence here lol!

Mind you, this is for the N55 8HP ZF transmission. I didn’t change out anything other than the transmission pan, which has the built-in filter, O-ring and gasket. I did nothing with the mechatronic sleeve or anything else since there were no leaks or performance concerns. I’m thrilled all were in great condition, because there was no way I would have had the stamina to continue with mechatronic maintenance!

Thank you! i got them from a fellow member, he had them on his X5m and wanted to go back to stock, I love them they are the perfect tint, I was afraid they would be to dark. I looked at depo ones as well and ending up scoring a great deal!

Several months ago bought a used 2011 X5d with 130K. Been working through some maintenance items. Today was the fuel filter. Should have been quick and easy. I removed the transmission cover and the larger plastic cover on the driver side. Went to remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the fuel filter in place and they just spun in place without loosening up at all. I am the second owner and the original owner had all the service done at the dealership. Whoever changed the filter last over tightened the bolts and turned the flat keeper on the back of these bolts right through the plastic on the back of the filter bracket. When I tried the loosen them, they would just sit and spin. There is a small slot there through which I tried to wedge a flat screwdriver in order to hold the retainer but the bolt was torqued to the point of not being that easy. I contemplated cutting the bolts with a metal blade in my sawzall but my better judgement won out and I ended up unhooking the filter and removing the whole filter housing straps and all. There are two nuts holding it in place. One towards the front top of the holder and one in the middle just above the filter. I could then remove the straps around the filter at my work bench by wedging a flat file against the retainer in the back while loosening the bolts. Because they were stripped out, I didn't reuse them but used zip ties instead which I will snip at the next filter change. This seemed to work well but time will tell. [IMG][/IMG]

Nice to see you got it off! Can you replace the washers with larger ones now and still make it work or are you going to just order the whole plastic piece new?

Perhaps risky, but I just used heavy zip ties to hold the new filter (that's the second photo) and put it back on. I guess I could have used longer bolts and washers and nuts. If this were a gasoline engine I would have been reluctant to trust zip ties

Also installed my rear compartment hinge bought on this forum.

How do you like the bigger idrive knob cap? Does it stick, harder to turn or anything?

It's a knob that sits on top of the old knob. To get the light to work, I removed the top of the old knob.

Basically, it makes it so you have to turn the knob less to go through menus.

It works well, and I've gotten used to it.

I just got and installed my rear compartment hinge yesterday too. It works GREAT! I can't believe I didn't know this was a think, and I can't believe BMW put the screw holes and didn't bother including the bracket+ piston. It's so freaking nice to have the compartment stay open for me.

I think they're great as well. I just never go in there for anything. What is everyone using that space for?

Well my spare for one and the compartment holds a roll of paper towel and the ski pass that usually goes onto the rear seats. It was making noise at lower speeds so i took that sucker out and put it in the compartment. I don't normally go in there either.

Spent 4 hours installing Meyle camber adjustable upper control arms in the front to gain more negative camber.

The power steering was seeping a bit from the opening so I put on a new o-ring.

Also installed the summer wheels/tires.

Can you share a part number for the camber adjustable control arms? I'm incredibly interested in those... are you a mechanic or mechanically inclined, can this be done by someone who has done downpipes and some bolt on things?

If you've done downpipes, you can pull off some control arms! If you want to do any bushings while you're at it, you can rent the right presses at most auto parts stores!
