Another non RFT Convert

Hi All:

Like others having driven the truck for 3 years now on Bridgestone RFT's, I am planning to change them with non RFT in the near future (Stock 18" wheels on my 3.5D)

I spent some time searching the archives, but I could not find any mention of a member giving feedback on Michelin LTX Premier tire (Or for that matter any LTX tire - M/S, MS2 etc)

Since I go on gravel roads a bit (camping, hiking etc), I was looking for a tire that would work reasonably without too much sacrifice on highway drive.

My choices bottomed out to Michelin Premier LTX, Pirelli Verde Plus and maybe Michelin LTX M/S2.

Appreciate if anyone who has used these can chime in with their experience.

Thanks

I have not used those. But frankly you could be on racing slicks on get through gravel just fine using ANY fulltime AWD vehicle. I take my Subaru with all-seasons and summer tires in the so.

So those tires are just fine on gravel/mud. Have you ever seen the TopGear episode where they take an M, AMG, and I think landrover SUV's with SUMMER tires into the mud, offroading? All were very capable.

As an aside, I use Continental DWS tires, and had a nail puncture one. Buying a spare here from another member was a life saver. I simply plugged the tire in my garage, and was fixed in 30min.

I put Goodyear eagle f1 4x4 on my x5 because they only cost 600 installed new and had descent reviews. I have 19s btw.

But to your question, I had m/s2 on my 4runner. They were really good. But heavy. I did feel a slight decrease in power and 1-2 mpg worse. But grip, road noise and comfort was excellent. 20k miles later they still looked new. Great grip if you are doing mild offloading

I was looking at the verde plus, but now I'm leaning towards the continental DWS.

Thanks, appreciate the comments and the weight to mileage consideration.

I see a lot of positive reviews on Conti DWS, however since it is (I think) primarily a passenger car tire and I am trying the cover the possibility of mild offroading - I was leaning more to a light truck tire. My reasoning here was if the tire is solid for dual purpose, it also helps in mitigating puncture risk (no data to support this however - purely speculation).

Anyone use DWS for "Mild Offroading" ?

I think I'm one of the few here who don't mind the Bridgestone RFT's I've never thought of them as loud, but then I haven't driven an X w/ non-RFT's.

I had actually planned to go a different route, likely the Conti's, but after seeing pics from fellow forum members, I don't like their skinnier profile.

I like the Latitute Tour HP. It is great on the highway and perfect if we want to go down a dirt road. The LTX is more of a truck tire and you are going to want a premium SUV tire.

I have the same "mild off-roading" question about the DWS
