If the issue is teams are running out tires, then a possible solution is for Pirelli to come up with a qualy-tire with lasting performance - only use for qualification.
I still think 90 seconds is too short a time to react if you're on the chopping block to get eliminated... either expand the time or count ongoing flying laps as the 90 second time limit expires. A number of cars which had pace to not be eliminated were out in the middle of flying laps just because time ran out. |

It's good that they look at ways to improve the show, this one didn't even get a fair shot since the teams obviously needed more time to adapt but just as well they can the idea since there are better ways. Unlimited tires and fuel being on top of that list in my book.

Qualifying yesterday was a shit fight and I for one am glad they have reverted back to the old way for the next race. If F1 want to see what qualifying should look like they just have to watch the MotoGP qualifying yesterday.
Now they've just got to sort out the distribution of funds so the big boys don't get it all. They have to at least try to get it a bit more exciting than it has been the last couple of years. Anyway we can at least watch the race during the daylight hours About 10 minutes to go! |

Wow. Alonso got a little too happy with newfound pace.
Insane crash. Going airborne. Nice footage. Lucky that he walked away just like that... ableit with a limp. Took awhile to even recognize the car in its current state. |

After all that, a Mercedes 1-2 finish.
Very telling when after safety car period, Vettel was on supersoft and Rosberg on medium. Vettel could only pull a 3 sec gap. According to Pirelli supersoft should have a 1.9 sec a lap advantage over medium tires. Congrats to Haas! P6 |

If he pulled a gap and ruined the tires in a couple laps, the softs wouldn't have made it till the end. They were already going out.

Not buying the NBC announcers giving false hope for challenged title run from Ferrari. I think the speed gap on equal tires is still large. We will see soon in Bahrain with the old quali back. |

That Alonso is ok is the only thing that matters from that race, holy fcuck that was scary. Looking forward to the next race without that level of violence please.

For some reason, you keep ignoring the facts. In order to pit, go back out, and do a timed lap, you need to do 3 laps (2 of which are longer than 1:30) plus a pit service. That's a total of 5 minutes. So if the elimination time is less than 5 minutes away, it becomes impossible to do, so they have no choice but to remain in the pits. What part of this is not clear?

How many laps can the Mediums do before they start falling off?

Not at a track like Melbourne. Difficult to pass there, not a lot of real overtaking areas. The DRS zones at Melbourne are worthless. Wait until we get to the open modern F1 tracks. I feel it will be similar domination. I wish I was optimistic like you, a battle this year would be fun to watch. I see Mercedes winning 90%+ of the races again.

The media seems to be glossing over the fact Kimi's engine blew up into flames. After they spent testing writing 2016 Ferrari powered cars could have engine reliability issues. Gutierrez was reporting engine problems from the start of the race, he pace was not the same as Grosjean.
Tokens spent ahead of Australian GP. Ferrari definitely tried the biggest swing in the off-season. Ferrari 23 (9 remaining) Honda 18 (14 remaining) Mercedes 19 (13 remaining) Renault 7 (25 remaining) |
