Correct, the 6HP can be put into neutral from inside the car, but not the 8HP.

To make it even more fun, the early 8HP has the bolt that can be tightened against the arm and keep the brake released, later ones do not have that option, so either someone lays under the car and holds it, or AGA Tool make a special tool that bolts onto the case and activates the lever, with a cable to run up into the window.

This is also especially important if the battery dies, no other safe way to release the parking brake if needed.

Further proof that auto engineers really do hate people lol

Got my winter tires mounted yesterday, just in time for snow fall. Found a gentle used set of Pirelli Ice & Snow 275/315. I use a mobile service to simply swap out my tires. I had to book these guys 3-4 weeks in advance, and ironically it snows 5 inches the day of swap. Their truck didn't fit in the garage so they just did it on the street I guess you can say they do this often

That's awesome man. I've used a mobile tire swap company before as well and it's really convenient. Also gave me the chance to clean the barrels of the wheels since they rarely come off.

I think that applies to 6HP's (35D) E70's...not sure though
Shop called today. Ground strap issue. Didn’t ask if the wire had broken or just corroded at one end. Took less than an hour to find and fix. Any remaining hope I had in the dealerships is gone. I cannot believe the dealer had my car for an entire day, overlooked this and went on to tell me they had to start taking things apart for a deeper diagnosis.

Isn't there a part under the cup holder that can be turned to put the car in neutral?
The little twist cap is there but when you remove it, there is no thing below to turn/twist/manipulate to put into neutral

After all that you went through I'm glad to hear it was nothing more serious. I changed my strap earlier this year as a preventative measure. After reading about it here on the forums and talking with my Indy (he had changed a few), I had him change mine.

I worked at the dealership for 6 years, parts department. Let's just say that after helping some of the tech's in the back counter, I know that you get good techs who actually want to learn and those who just want to get paid and go home. Then that's compounded by the service department not getting or paying the time to actually figure things out on a "problem" car.

Back to the ground strap, are you going to change the one in the rear? I don't think it causes issues like the main. Maybe have your tech take a look either way.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yea I feel like I had been reading about them a lot this year as well. I figured that would be one of the obvious things to check along with the battery. I Did not realize here was one in the rear. I’ll give them a call Monday and have them take a look at it and replace if necessary. Thanks for the heads up!

Happy thanksgiving!

X5d. Changed front and rear differential fluid and the transfer case fluid. All pretty dark. I have 131000mi on vehicle not sure if ever has been changed or not. The rear actually looked the worst. It it one that has bubbles that was after I poured from one container to another. Debating wether or not to reset transfer case fluid with go well or not I have heard people say computer will figure it out. If anyone wants to weigh in on that please do. Thanks

Finally drove it for the first time since I got it a few months ago.
I am surprised at how fast the 35i feels for its weight.
I’m going to slap a jb4 on it soon.
Also, the adaptive drive/suspension is so worth it!
Just need to figure out how to use this android idrive.

Finally got around to fixing the driver thigh support heated seat element. Took me a bit to compare reading from the passenger, but turned out to be a broken wire under the main seat heater.

Jeez, it’s been a while since I was here.

I’m a few hundred away from 275k in my D. It’s got 265/60/18 AT tires and a custom wheel carrier made by a talented 35d owner. Looks mean now. Did some off-roading, and planning some off-roading trips next spring as a cheap way to travel with a dog, so the tires were the move. I also custom mounted some diode dynamics ss3 pro pods into the oem fog light location, which look and perform freaking awesome.

Then had my alternator go, and injector 6 fry in consecutive weeks. Then I had 3 injector studs completely snap off inside the head. Those 3 are helicoiled now and everything’s back to running normally, except I have a CCV heater code and a CEL for it.

I’m also an idiot and didn’t use the right TPMS sensor, so I have that flashing on my dash too. I’ll code it out.

I’m also going to try to figure out how to code the rear PDC off. I’d like to just turn it off instead of have a plug plugged into the trailer plug. There must be a way to code it... so it’s time to learn NCSexpert.

Added one! Plus you can see the powdercoated wheels. Admittedly, they are darker than I wanted- I wanted a color more like Method’s bronze which is significantly lighter. But in person, this really does look good. It’s a satin finish bronze with flake in it. It’s sweet while clean. Dulls out when dirty, but doesn’t all paint?

I’m still getting a baseline for the loss in mpg from the switch to the AT tires, but it doesn’t look to be too too bad. Looking like about 2 mpg, which is admittedly a decent hit. Will report back with more information when I drive enough miles on it.

I also deleted the swirl flaps while I was in there, which were pretty mangled themselves. 3 were fine, 3 were identical to this pic.

Their activation was deleted at 213k, and I count 3 missing set screws. I assume they miraculously made it through the motor, burned up, or are simply embedded in the top of the pistons... but if there’s no interference, I’m inclined not to care. I had almost no carbon build up, which is normal for an x5, and with 61k miles of deleted driving, I assume it cleaned itself up a fair bit too.

Best of all on the updates, I got a puppy. First pic when we got him, second pic from yesterday.

I like the wheels. Playing with the idea of the same color on my car. Where did you have them done?

Brisk 7*F morning hike. No issues for the 35d starting up - I've been adding HotShots Winter Diesel additive last few weeks. Pirelli Snow tires have been fairly awesome in snow this season. They are definitely a bit wide, and maybe next year i'll consider a dedicated set of 18/19 inch wheels/tires. Desperately needs a wash soon, especially when parked next to its garage mate.

Purchased full brake set up (Zimmerman rotors, Textar pads) and Stainless steel brake hoses for the 35D. Car is going in on Friday. Also looking to change the rear ground strap as I only changed the one in the front at the last service I did.
