minus the shifter which looks like you should shave with it, and move it by pinching it with your thumb and index finger because its so small. geezus, I hope they don't eventually remove the shifter all together and replace it with buttons...

I like it but don't love it. The 991 is just so beautiful imo its hard to accept change but I'm sure it will grow on me. Cant say I am a fan of Porsche making the rear ends more homogenous throughout the lineup, the 992 now having similar styling to the 718, Macan, and Panamera.

Obviously a Porsche fan myself and I do like the 992.

However, I liked being able to differentiate between the models based on the wide body/rear light strip. The look also added a bit of exclusivity for the more expensive 4 models.

Definitely missing the NA engines but have to go with the times. I will be very interested in the hybrid models down the road given the potential performance (since the cars have already lost the sound that gave them so much soul).

As an owner of the 991.1S and a Miami Blue 991.2S, I love it! Looks like a modern day 993. The front GT3 suspension is a great thing, the wide body, tech, and revising what was the best dampening and rebound in the industry are all ways to improve a car that probably could have gone another 3 years and still stay ahead of everyone. The 992 will again redefine and reset the bar as all 911s before it have. It will be intriguing to see whether the GT3 retains an NA motor or not.

i agree about redefining and resetting the bar - the claimed performance numbers already prove that.

but there is nothing left of the 993 in there...aesthetic or otherwise. lol

Looks incredibly similar. It's just a testament to the 991, which looks just as modern today as it did when it hit dealers a few years back.

The 991's interior aged just fine as well, but once the Panamera was released with a bigger screen and fewer buttons you knew the 911 was gonna need it as well.

Considering the 991's interior was already aged when it was released, that's not saying much.

That said, the retro-vertical qualities of the dash and the distinct lack of the feeling of sitting 'in' the car -- both hallmarks of the 911 experience throughout its existence -- are both also antithetical to the car's transformation into a small luxury GT. It needed the Panamera's interior tech to offset those things. In that respect, it's already a success.

But I'm not a fan of less buttons. The Tim Allen in me wants them to push and light up so I can grunt in approval.

It's indeed strange, but having a shift lever like stick thats in reality just a switch is also strange. I mean with an old fashioned automatic years ago there might have been cables etc going into the slushbox, but I think this is all electronic.

But maybe its better to do it just like ferrari, mclaren, lamborghini etc, and just have 2 or 3 pushbuttons there.

Interesting take. You know more about Porsche than I do so you must have a point. But I think the 991's interior was a big step up from the 997 and besides the plasticky buttons on the console still looks fresh to me.

Clean, classy, modern, and clearly Porsche. I like it. Nothing overstated. Only flaw is the rear end looks a little too much like Tesla design.

Maybe this has been covered, but what is this huge red-thing in the middle of the rear grille? It looks like a giant on/off switch.

Yep: Third brake light. I was convinced Porsche wouldn't retain it when it was seen on 992 test mules in the wild a few months ago. It just didn't make sense stylistically and functionally. The 1995 993 had a similar, stupid "bucket handle" CHMSL too. Maybe they're just going full retro and will move it back inside next year.

Like, couldn't it be in the rear window, or a cool row of LEDs or something? But it looks like a giant breaker-switch the way it's implemented. Odd.

The cool row third LED is so 2017. 2018 is the fancy rear turn signals that chase outwards.
