Doesn't quite seem like the whole story is being told.

If I was the OP I'd fight this tooth and nail and get a new car out of it.
Note waiting an extra 2 years before taking action to ensure lesser values on the vehicles..

The truthful story is not being told of course. Car manufacturers know every little part number which is in the vehicle and where the vehicle was sold.

Incidentally, does your vehicle have a Takata airbag? Was it replaced?

Mass media doesn't have a good track record in reporting real news. In this instance, there is nothing more compelling than national attention through consumer advocate at a nationally syndicated news show. You deserve a new car and VW will ask you to sign a non disclosure after a lengthy process. It will be worth it.

Honestly consult a lawyer, perhaps one that specializes in lemon or buy backs. They might be able to provide some guidance that could perhaps give you more amenable options.

I'm having my own issue with Vw right now. Bought a Tdi that had the epa "fix" done and here it is 90 days later and I still don't have a memorandum. Tomorrow I can no longer drive the car since I am out of options for plates. Dealer said I can come get a dealer tag (over an hour away) to hold me over. We said they should bring it to us...no reply back. Vw won't release the car because some thing isn't right with the EPA sticker photos. I'm putting a complaint in with the state AG and it's time for some bad reviews. I understand crap happens but they have failed miserably at the customer service end of things.

That seems like six of one half a dozen of the other.

We sold our 2012 Golf TDI back to VW on 3/17 and received what I figured to be $5k more than it's value. Upgraded to a 2016 MB GLA250 (with extra $ of course). Hated the uncertainty up to the buy back, but the $5K helped to sooth the attitude. Probably never buy an VW again though.

Well just got a call from VW. They are sending a tech out with dealer tags to put on my car. The best part...they are giving me a check for 3 months of car payments for the hassle. So for me it's all better now it seems.

OP I truly hope they make it right for you. I can't imagine the frustration, mine has been a hassle but yours is a whole different league.
