Putting X6 wheels on X6 M

Hi All,

I bought a set of 20" 214 wheels originally from an X6 for my 2010 X6 M. After installing I noticed vibrations and rattling at high speeds on the free way. . Is there anything I need to do to eliminate this? I also have spacers on the car 12F and 15R. Thanks

Your wheels aren't centered on the hubs. I'd normally recommend hub-centric rings, just not sure where you'd put 'em...

I have 20” x5rims on my 2013 X6M (winter boots in pic). These rims are 74.1mm centerbore - Parallel 275/40/20 on all corners. I don’t use spacers on the front...and bolt on as is, matching the original fronts. On the rear I use just 10 mm spacers and hub centric rings 72.56 to 74.1 . With respect to the rear, the spacers are installed on the hub then the rings.. This is my winter setup... Never any problems.

So in short I need hub centric rings and that should eliminate the vibrations?

If you use a rim that’s 74.1 on the rear on an X6M with a 72.56 center bore, I would for sure use a hub centric ring. I use aluminum ones not plastic. My guess is that’s the source of your vibration if it never existed before. I’m putting my winters on this weekend....I can take a few pics and post my set-up.

Take the rear wheel off... clean any rust... if your spacers are 74.1...put some anti seize on the raised lip of the hub...push on the 72.56 to 74.1 hub centric ring. put the spacer on over the ring...Add some more anti seize on the lip of the spacer...Bolt on the wheel.

If your spacers are 72.56... they will go on first... then the 72.56 to 74.1 ring.. then the wheel...I expect this will be you...

If the spacers are the same size bore both sides and the new wheel is the same center bore, then obviously no hub centric ring needed. Unlikely to be your situation with respect to your rear fitment.

Ali Express is the cheapest place to buy the rings.... but if you haven’t purchased there before... it can take a while..

No...existing wheel center bore is 74.1...same as what you're probably putting on...

This got me thinking...we have bmw alloy compact spare...with a 72.56mm center bore (for my better half's F25 X3)....the overall wheel diameter happens to be the same on the X3 and our X6M....It will fit the rear of the X6M...but now I'm going to grab a 74.1mm spacer (hub) to 72..56 (spare wheel)...and then I can use it as needed on either vehicle....

So to refresh...in my case I use E70 X5 Y Spoke 74.1mm rims for my winter boots.

On the front, I don't use spacers and bolt the wheel straight on...

On the rear, I have a 72.56 mm spacer, to which I place on a a 72.56 to 74.1 hub centric ring. Then I bolt on the 74.1 rim.

The pic shows what goes where if still muddy, don't forget to use appropriate length bolts
