Battery and FRM install help

Car is 2011 X6 35i

I need to install a new battery and FRM but Im not sure which order to do so. the current battery in the vehicle is working, Its just old and I want to replace.

1. Install battery and register it
2. install FRM and register it.

or

1. Install FRM (with old battery) and register it
2. install New battery and register it

or

1. Install both
2. register battery then FRM

Or any other combination. If someone with some experience could lend a hand, I would be most appreciative.

How did you determine the FRM is bad?
