Okay so I used the navigation app through the head unit to see if it'll play sounds but from what I was told Sygic only plays sound if you buy the premium. That accurate? How else can I tell if swapping the opitcal cable is the proven way to play sounds out of this unit?

I'm not sure what kind of phone you have that don't have a Personal Hot spot available (I believe all recent iPhones and Android phones have this option) not sure what its called in Android phone as I'm using iPhone. Anyway you won't be able to use Waze without internet connection but you might be able to use Sygic as u can download maps to use offline! Look in to usb WiFI modem option, this will make you Avin experience much better!

After a while of playing around I am finding the unit extremely limited as far as 3rd party hardware support.
Don't know if its locked down to keep you from using other carplay devices, etc. or if the kernel was stripped of everything unnecessary to improve performance because what is under the hood is old hardware when it comes down to it. For example, Tidal is too resource intensive for it and cant load the main screen. I have now tried 2 usb DACs that work fine on other androids but get no sound output on the avin even when configured for direct usb driver in Nuetron player. Wont pair with a carly gen1 (made for android). Cant pair with mosconi dsp bluetooth (specifically made for android app).. Can't pair BT keyboards or mice. Cant use torque with ODB cable. I sure hope there is a good reason for the neutered bluetooth stack other than just keeping people buying their "accessory" hardware. I wonder if other manufactures 3rd party support is just as limited. The concept of the product is awesome but its too bad the hardware was generations old on release (Rockchip PX3 / 1GB ram). Its a shame that a device with so much potential is so severely limited! |

I'm guessing the Bluetooth options are from not having a low energy Bluetooth since I can't connect the stereo or a cheap $50 tablet to my JB4 yet I can connect a $100 tablet.
AVIN sent me a Google Drive link after I asked so that I could download the software and hopefully some custom baking can fix things. Last edited by m5james; 01-01-2018 at 11:53 AM.. |

Seems to me the custom bluetooth apk that takes over is @ fault. If the vanilla bt android implementation was there more might work. But like you mentioned about having problems pairing with cheaper tablets & devices , this hardware may definitely fall into that ballpark.
Any attempt to get pinouts / or technical information about capabilities of the unit was met with silence or a one word reply from support. They were however lightening quick with responses to basic questions. I opened up the unit to get my own answers - White paper / patent on the heart of the unit (pcb - ZXW850B) https://patents.google.com/patent/CN205785237U/en As far as custom baking a firmware look into RockChip Factory Tool v5.0 to read the firmware and imgRePackerRK 106 to start diving into the files, it will also help you re-encode the firmware if you make any adjustments. |

Honestly it sounds like you know more than I do...I've custom baked ROM's years ago using 7Zip but mostly to remove bloatware and add apps. I've never dine kernels or anything. I'd love your input, especially on the Bluetooth. Switch to a different UI (other than NBT look) in the settings menu and you'll be able to play with Bluetooth more, your notifications bar will be different, etc. I'd be very happy if I could connect this to my JB4. no 11/22/2017 is when update was packaged, the real time stamp is seeing on the software version when installed which is 20171111 (11/11).
I assume you got the update somewhat recently and I got mine on November 25 so this means there is no update as of now...
