Hello all,

I wanted to upgrade my basic steering wheel on my 2013 35i to one from an 2012 x5m.

In watching the linked below video and the poster says that he didn't disconnect the airbag as M wheel has different wiring?

I realize the paddles on the M won't work but is the wiring different on the air bag and wheel on the M wheel?

If so can I just replace the top wired cover or the airbag wires over from the regular wheel to the M wheel and airbag without pulling out the whole airbag itself?

To clarity I have both wheels and airbags for both

I’m not sure if the wire harness is the same or if the plugs are the same.
I thought for all e70 they were, just different style bags.
The reason the guy disassembles his air bag is because for the M style, he just had the airbag cover and not the whole assembly. He needed to transfer the airbag.

Best thing to do is remove your airbag and look at it yourself and see if the plug on the clock spring is different from M to non M.
I really think they’re the same and think you can just swap your new wheel and plug it into the clock spring then plug the airbag in.
If it all plugs in, you shouldn’t have any airbag lights.

Thank you. I will have a look.

Secondly is there a way to tell if my airbag or the one coming with the M wheel had the recall done?

Best to check the vin from your car and the car you got the M airbag from and see if the Recall has been done.

I’ve seen posts where some say a yellow sticker with the info on the bag has not been recalled and the ones with a white sticker have been recalled.
Makes some sense. Some airbags on eBay do have a yellow sticker while others have a white sticker, but I’ve also seen recalled airbags with a yellow sticker too.

I guess a manufacture date on the bag if it is after the year of the car maybe too, I'll have a look thanks

This is the M bag any idea if it was recalled? It's a white label but I'm not sure

I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a good one as I haven’t seen any that needed the recall done with a white sticker.
