Audio Systems!
I was looking at the spec sheet of my x5, and I found that it had premium audio or something like that. Most of the websites I saw said that there were 16 speakers, but I can only see/find 15. Also, the different audio systems are confusing. Hifi, Premium audio, Harman Kardon, B&O. I need someone to help me make sense of it all.

2011 35i/35d - Base system (S645A) or Premium Sound Package (S677A) 2011 50i - HiFi (S676A) or Premium Sound Package (S677A) 2012/2013 35i/35d/50i - HiFi (S676A) or Premium Sound Package (S677A) 2010-2013 X5M - Base (S677A) or Individual Audio (S752A) Option S645A (2011 35i/35d only) had only 6 speakers (or something close to that) and sounded quite bad IMO when I test drove 2 of them. I couldn't tell any difference between S676A and S677A. S677A adds the equalizer in iDrive and I believe a glovebox DVD player? I've also read it added 2 extra speakers in the very back? Strangely, the HiFi (S676A) in my X5 sounds much better than the Individual Audio (S752A) in my E90 M3. Harmon Kardon & B&O were not available in the E70 lineup, at least in the U.S. You can find H/K in various 3 series and again in the current F15 X5 lineup depending on year/model/configuration. On the F15 50i, H/K (S688A) was the first step up over base (S676A). In 2014 models it was part of the Executive Package, then became standard equipment in 2015 I believe, with B&O (S6F2) being the upgrade/top of the line option. I believe the 35i is slightly different, I doubt H/K is standard as there is usually some differentiation between the I6 and V8 model. You're missing speaker...subwoofer under the seat? |

IMO, BMW did a pretty good job on the audio system. But to improve it, you don't need much. Better tweeters up front, and more power. A real subwoofer is optional.
You could go as far as adding a xover, either passive or active to say the front door mids, which would clean up some of the vocals... But when you're rolling on wide 20" wheels, road noise and NVH rule out any semblence of sound quality.

Late reply... there are actually not 1 but 2 in the middle of the dash, one is a speaker and the other a tweeter (they are both under the same speaker cover). So there is 16 in total. I am in the process of retrofitting a B&O System into a 2012 E70 X5 so I had the chance to count all of them
