Brakes look whimpy, front airdam openings looks HUGE, wheels look smallish on such a big vehicle, etc... for that (expected) price tag, there is a couple dozen cars I would rather have. IMNSHO

The current stock wheels on the 4.8 in the US looks way better. Bumpers looks very aggressive.

I agree, I think I might have gotten ahead of myself tho. The final production car will have different wheels since this is probabally just a mule. The brakes are still lacking.

Those front air ducts are enormous. I agree that this car definitely needs a big set of rims to keep things in proportion. The X5 is a beefy vehicle.

flame suit on.. but to be honest i am very disappointed in the //M division for wasting their time and energy on such an ugly vehicle

if at any point in my life i would consider a performance SUV (which will be never) i would go with a cayenne GTS.. otherwise a range rover would more than suffice

they dropped plans of an M3 CSL for this? not to mention the next M3 may not even be a V8 because of production costs of manufacturing the engine but they have the budget for two vehicles (including the X6 M here) which look like they are kitted with poorly designed after-market body kits

i just had to vent.. not trying to offend any potential buyers.. but the reality of it is.. a sports car is a car not an SUV

i am disappointed in BMW

BMW probably felt they were losing out on a potential market..

but how many ML63 AMGs do you see? i've only seen three in the past 3-4 years since the model debut.. sales are poor

sure fuel costs have come down in recent months but thats not assured

i'm sure BMW will sell enough to Arabs with poor taste in vehicles to break-even.. the X6 //M is the official pace car at the F1 track in Qatar

Add some beefier tires there. That's too skinny for a SUV.

Hot Danm that Front Bumper Looks SICK! I dont know why they would make the M5/M6 M Front Bumpers more Agressive looking then the E9x M3 front bumpers
I hope the final car has some bigger wheels on it... some 20's or 22's would be nice

That's a rear brake. Hopefully fronts are much more robust. Overall package doesn't do much for me, though. I guess they couldn't let the ML63 And Cayenne Turbo have bragging rights.

These are going to be great vehicles for people who want and/or need such things. Period. Maybe not a true "///M" but they'll be Porsche/LR beaters I'm sure. Perhaps some will consider the "M" to mean "MOVE!!!" when one of these beasts comes up the behind of one of the other SAV brands, who knows. And remember, even Lamborghini made one of these things, way way back (I used to call it the Lamoo or something like that).

But BMW has already done one thing to diminish the exclusivity of the X5M...they've added the M-Sport package to an X5 which, except for the front air inlets and exhausts & wheels, looks almost identical to the new M version. Good news for X5 buyers, bad news for the M crowd.

I won't be buying one of these things but I bet they'll do well performance wise once they're released to the media for testing.

What the hell is BMW's problem? Where the hell is the E91 ///M3? That would be sweet!

great car, too high, wheels tiny, even the chopped, the wheel barrel or w/e is just way too big...

needs improvment.. but for first generation its a good start... i guess.. the porsche GTS or turbo still kill it in look...

Yup, I agree.

Arabs and Russian mafia are the target demographic for this auto.

But really, in this economy and the days of "save the planet". What were they thinking?

It doesn't help much either, that it is kind of ugly.

Oh yeah and it comes with an automatic "slushbox" tranny, no DCT.

I love the way you guys see a test mule and start flaming it before the final production version hits the streets. People said the same things about the current M3's and most you who bashed it probably has one in their garrage now.

BMW makes cars and the M division just happens to be a part of BMW, but it's just a division. From a branding prospective, the X5M and/or X6M is the smartest idea BMW could have ever developed. M is not going to suffer from the X5M, it's actually going to get stronger.

In a about 5 years when I'm ready to upgrade my DD I'll be looking long and hard at the M SUV offerings.
