Don't let that stop you. If you get a tune with a handheld device you can flash back to the stock map before taking it in for service. My cars been tuned since it read 500 miles on the odo! The M's have proven to be very reliable and the couple things like injectors and vacuum lines that are known to be problematic aren't caused by a tune so a dealership can't deny you warranty work for something like that. They need to conclusively prove that the tune caused a part to fail. FWIW, I don't even flash back to stock when I take my car in, the service department loves my car. They call it Big Blue!

Has anyone heard of or have experience with www.tuningtechfs.com??

I have a friend that uses them and swears by their work, and the guy that emailed me seemed very nice.

I've been looking to buy an X5M for a few months now and coming from a supercharged E46 M3 and fully built 335 I've been reading similar threads like this one about different types of tunes for the X5M...the only thing I've noticed is everybody is basically doing the same setup...a tune and down pipes or a tune with an exhaust...has anybody upgraded their intercoolers or replaced the stock turbos etc. to bring out the full potential of these beasts??? I know a lot of guys want to keep it simple for warranty concerns but those of you out of warranty...has anybody gone beyond the basic tune???

Really temping to tune, but my turbos have some siren and I feel like a tune might be the last straw for them. Really wasn't expecting potential low mileage turbo replacement on this car.

Yes there has been people who have done turbo swaps/improvements, however from what i know, the limiting factor is the amount of fuel that is able to be supplied with the direct injection that these cars use. With catless tunes, the fuel system are at a very high capacity without much head room, I think there maybe another 5-10% extra. Since no one makes an improved fuel delivery setup, there really isn't a way to capitalize on turbo improvements. The turbo swaps that PP Performance has is very expensive and the power gain is quite minimal considering the cost. As for intercoolers, Dinan developed a set for the 50i engines, but no one ever bothered for the M engines, pretty sure they do a good enough job as is and won't really benefit from a full swap, also the space is very limiting since it's a air to water setup.

That's some good info I was unaware of...I was just curious to know if the stock intercoolers got heat soaked with a tune since I plan to mod it when I eventually find an X5M

These cars handle heatsoak very well when tuned. Our cooling system trumps dinans upgraded coolers for the 50i. Talk to someone at dinan and they will tell you the same

Haven't seen anyone running this tune that is active on this forum recently. They were the first to break into the 11's with a tune only though

There's a massive thread that's worth reading over on the n54tech site (http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18035) - in a nutshell, it's awesome.

I've got my new BMS stage 1 here sitting in a box until I get my 50i back from the N63 service.

The Burger tune for the N63 was great, but for the X5M it was not impressive at all.

I'm going to make it out to the strip in the spring. I have a feeling I can break into the 11's with this thing. Very happy with Velos so far. Much stronger tune compared to what I had previously (dinan).
Any issues with your trans slipping? Was told an x6m with similar mods as yours (stg 2, catless downpipes, and exhaust) had issues with trans slip (weak factor)?

Hmm thats weird. Our trans can easily handle this power level. No issues with mine. I believe they can handle up to 1100Nm of torque, much more than I am currently making. In my time with this platform I learned the weakest link was the axles. There was a member on here who snapped his rear axle using launch control when the car was bone stock! That may have been an outlier because there is another member on here who imo essentially has proven these cars can be launched every day (Jimshorts was his username). He really pushed his car hard and it had high mileage

ActiveAutowerks: $ 1199.00 plus 10% off this Labor Day weekend
86 RearWheel HP
117 Ft lb of Torque

Eurocharged:$ 1199.00

Velos: $ 2250.00

Dinan $ 2999.00
55 RWHP
75lbs ft lb

VF Hex Tuning
Stage 1 (gain approx 75hp/100tq) USD $1695.
Stage 2 (gain approx 120hp/170tq) USD $2295.
http://vf-engineering.com/x5x6-m/

ESS Tuning $ 1695.00

G-Power $ 3958.80 euros.......
105HP
104 FT lb of Torque

Well after a lot of soul searching I finally pulled the trigger on a Eurocharged Tune and needless to say IMPRESSIVE. I knew it would be, with our twin turbos that just beg for the tune. Jerry at Eurocharged really knows his stuff when it comes to unleashing these motors.

But really I am just glad to get rid of the limiter that kept stopping me at 162. I will report back soon what the X5M's real top speed is....at the next airport event.

If you are on the fence, call Eurocharged, you will not be disappointed.

Hey Bob,

Eurocharge is half the price of Velos for the same performance. If you have cash to burn you are right, Omar is the guy to take it. Dinan is right there too!

All of the companies listed are excellent and all will walk you through the process of loading your tune. That is standard protocol.

Bump for a good thread. Prices seem all over the highway, from as little as $500 from Burger to $3000 from $$Dinan$$, yet they all seem to be close to the same numbers. I'm mostly curious how it works once modding...other than K&N filters, I'm bone stock. My next mod will be muffler delete. Pending some replies, I'm either going to decat the stock downpipes or wait until some aftermarket pipes come into realistic price ranges for 3' of tubing. I assumed after that, then I'd get tune. What happens if I get tuned now, then add these things as I go...do I get free updates based on my mods, pay a little each time or pay the full amount over and over again each time?

Has anyone had an issues with their tune? My Dad's 08 XR5 3.0 diesel was chipped and we are struggling to work out why it has just bent a rod for the second time!
Unfortunately, I don't know the tuning company.
