s63 downpipe suggestion

I'm looking in to getting downpipes and a tune for my e71 x6m and I was wondering what people suggest for downpipes. I heard the vrsf ones don't fit well, and I would like well fitting parts. Suppliers in Canada get bonus points!

I have Active Autowerke catless downpipes and the fitment was good. Weld quality also looked great. I got mine used for half of retail cost and have no complaints. Not sure I could bring myself to spend $1700 US for a couple pipes though....

If I didn't go with the VRSF and fight them on, I would have gotten the Ultimate Racing ones. I knew of UR from Subaru and Evo platforms, and their stuff is top notch. I'm sure their stuff will fit perfect. They're cheaper than most as well.

Exactly why I'm doing my research, I didn't want to spend over 2k canadian on downpipes. Thanks!

I was hoping for a pair with flex pipes, thanks for the reply!

There were some $600 ish range ones on eBay for a good period of time.

It looks like there's a hike now though...

No flex section on those downpipes. If you're planning to install yourself it I'd be looking for something with a flex section. Even if it only provides a little extra wiggle room during install, a little is better than zero. Flex section will also help to dissipate any possible movement that may occur while engine is under load.

All depends what you're hoping to spend though.

I was running OBX (which fit like crap, even O2 sensors in wrong place). I ordered the ARM Motorsports which are made for the 550i but appear to work on the X5, initial fit looks good, will be final boltup tonight, will post back how it goes. They are only 347.00 and the workmanship looks excellent, rivals the 1500 pipes

Those do look darn good for less than $400.

Ya they look awesome in person, the pics they have on their website are the old version.

Got the passenger side new turbo and downpipe installed, everything went super smooth, no fitment issues and a million times easier than the old downpipes, have to go into work but will finish it tomorrow and report back how they sound/work

Wow that looks like a great budget option, but only for the slip style exhaust rigs, not the 2 bolt flange style.

Has anyone heard of Racing Dynamics Downpipes for the s63? Can't seem to find anyone mentioning their fitment or sound quality. Found some local to me and I am wondering how they compare to the others mentioned on this thread! They look like they are legit and have a flex section.

Totally agreed on the flex section.

I actually went with the Agency Power version - Best offered on ebay for $1200. Afterward though, kicked myself for not buying this cheap version and just having the flex section welded in.

You can take your chances with the VRSF, some fit perfect, some not so much. Mine took a lot of pry bar, loosening the exhaust etc, but they are on and working...

Adding on to the beauty portion... All of us should note, the best thing we can do is wrap these, put the cover back on and then never look at them again.

The aesthetics make no difference... the build quality in not separating in the future.

Agree with ya on wrapping, and doing them with the proper wrap, no BS fiberglass. However totally disagree with you on the rest. If you have ever tried to weld, you will know how difficult it is to lay a weld as perfectly as those in picture and this is also indicative of how much care was spent on the rest of the build so chances are it will fit and without leaks. My previous pipes had sloppy welds that leaked and just simply built wrong.... aesthetics matter, even on something like pipes, it very much shows the build quality

Too bad Arm Motorsport doesn’t have the flange exit for older models.
Im looking at RM Motors which is from Poland but the price is not bad $550 shipped.
The welds are nice with great reviews also.

0-60 will tell you that him and his folks in Dubai tend to run a set from Russia... I emailed him, $90 to ship to the US is not bad for them.

Surprised you didn't see it, but I (and others I think) had serious fitment issues with them on my first X5M related to the O2 bungs. What I may have saved on the parts, I spent on jury-rigging effort to get everything connected without a CEL.

Once installed appropriately, they performed fine. If I could do it over again, I'd have gone with a different manufacturer/brand. Velos kinda warned me there might be fitment issues with Racing Dynamics when I was shopping, but did it anyway. My mistake.

My friends in Dubai have used his DP's and they said fitment was great. There is also redstar exhaust from Russia on ebay. AA are also another great choice.

The VRSF look great, just don't really fit nearly as good as they look. I wrapped mine, ditched the heat shield for the PTP turbo blanket. Now I can put my hand on it after I've been driving it hard. If you're on a budget, I'd probably grab the VRSF, as you might get a good set. If not, you can return them and try another set.

I ran stock gutted cars for like 2yrs, accomplished what I wanted for power/sound and eventually found a used aftermarket set (don't recall the brand name, if any) and other than placebo, I can't really say they were any different. Fitment wasn't the best but I eventually got them on and had to retighten them like 6 months later and haven't had an issue since. I'd NEVER pay $1700 +/- for them so if you're not in a rush but want the power/sound, then go gutted for free and about 3hrs of your time.

PS - might as well header wrap them before installing them, stock or aftermarket.
