Can someone tell me about TPMS?
I'm currently after a new set of wheels. Possibly Hamann or ADV1. I have a 2011 X5M. Would I need to buy a new set TPMS from BMW and install them on the new set of wheels and tires? My knowledge about wheels in general in next to nothing so I'm in need of some guidance. I'm guessing TPMS can't be moved from the stock wheels to a new set of wheels?
And if I were to forgo the TPMS on the new set of wheels, would I get some kind of error msg? Thanks |

The sensors can indeed be moved from your stock wheels to your new wheels. Yes you will get tire pressure error messages if you operate the vehicle without TPMS, unless you get the system disabled.

True, If you do not have tire pressure sensors in your existing rims. If you do have sensors (like me, as I have a us) you can also get it programmed to the cdn version that detects pressure loss by rotational differences.

This is interesting, Who can do this programming. I had mine disabled, but I would love the "sensor less" type, as I had on my E60. Please let us know.

You can get a set of sensors from Tire Rack for less than $100. I put a set on my 2013 winter set up and they work great. Saves the hassle of breaking down the tires to get the sensors.
I wanted the TPMS because I have run flat snow tires on.
