Recent X5M purchasers, need your help...

I'm working on a diminished value claim and am in need of some basic data if you recently purchased an E70 X5M. A PM will suffice if you wish not to post.

I recognize some may not be comfortable sharing, and I understand. But I'm looking for BMW, E70 X5M, YEAR, MILEAGE, PURCHASE VALUE, MO/YR OF PURCHASE, ACCIDENTS?. I will only use the raw data, nothing else. The raw data will only be used in an email between me and the insurance rep.

In these claims they leverage the fact that we as consumers can't easily prove the current value of our pre-accident vehicles. I figure one way to do this is to ask the group for this raw data and provide these as tangible data points of recent values.

See my story, page 3, post #46. (https://www.xbimmers.com/forums/show....php?t=1499820)

Thanks in advance for your help.
Jeremy

I went thru that headache with my wife's Audi A5 after some lady ran a stop light and ran into her. Luckily the dash cam made it clear for the police who was at fault. I battled a diminished value claim with the at fault drivers insurance company. They denied and denied, giving me bs responses. I posted one time on their Facebook page of what they are doing, got a call, and an email then a check 3 weeks later.

Best way is to go to a BMW dealer and have them write you a letter regarding what they would buy the car with or without the accident. You can also ask Carmax about such a quote too?
Been there done that and got reimbursed too
Will send you a PM shortly.

Thanks for the insight.

Yes, I've done both. Carmax will provide a wholesale value and then will send off to auction to be sold at another value, which will then be posted at an asking price by the person who purchased at auction, then sold for an actual price. Luckily for me, they had an E70 X5M with 23k miles for sale, which helps tremendously...unfortunately it sold and no longer listed, I only have the item number. It was in CA, so hopefully someone here picked it up...

BMW values have been reported to the insurance company and they are being disputed with implication it's not independent and in my favor. So I plan to give many differing data points for consumption and continue to argue.

Thanks for the responses.

I can get you a list of recent auction sales at manheim -- granted these wholesale values are going to be 10-15% below retail, but perhaps a good data point?

Another quick question...does CARMAX negotiate or is their price really no-haggle/fixed?

There are a few e70 X5Ms on ebay as well. You could track the final values (although, that's probably not a considered a sale).

Stall techniques are the bread and butter of the insurance company. I agree with poster who said take to their social media pages.

I bought a 2011 X5M with 104k miles last Dec. Private party... following an insurance screw-job of my payout on a totalled 2010 with similar miles.

PM me if details would be helpful.

I and the recent purchase are located in the Rochester NY area.

Per previous comments, get quotes from BMW, Carmax etc... if you can.. also all data you can get from KBB, NADA, Black Book if you can get access etc.. should help if you had it all holistically to see/share.

Here are some values i just pulled... as you can see .. the X5M looks to have effectively bottomed out. The 2103 looks like it's just hitting that flatter part or is very very close to.

IN-FLT, great data to post! I did some research on CarGuru's Instant Market Value (IMV), but all these sites leave something out that makes it hard to compare values with other sites. KBB gives you values, but in a conflict of interest also offers to buy your car with an instant cash quote...not surprisingly their values come in lowest...which is what the insurance uses...if not using 17c formula

ALSO, THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S HELP, I was surprised at how many recent purchases there have been on this forum. Thank you for all the responses. I'll be taking responses a few more days until I respond, but I have quite a few great data points.

That's extremely useful! I've shopped on car gurus, but never found those charts. I also just bought a 2013 with 93K for $23K in February. I have been shopping for over a year, so I've seen the trends, but never as clearly as in those charts. Thanks for posting!

Probably going to be selling my wife's x5m when the g05 m50i comes out later this summer. Car has had every recall done and a full 7 extra yrs of warranty with zero deductible so had every little thing fixed. All warranty work was done at dealer. Anyone interested ping me closer to end of summer. 73k miles at the moment.

What color combo and does it still have any warranty? What warranty company do you have?

All of your help plus the analysis I performed got me to the next level of the Farmer's diminished value hierarchy.

The new Rep's response of note was that they can't accept my analysis because they don't have any way to prove the data I provided is real. Not surprising, but I hoped that my insinuation that the data could be proved and is based on fact would be enough...but they called my bluff.

I feel this is asking too much, but will ask anyway. FOR THOSE THAT SUBMITTED DATA, would anyone be willing to sign on to a letter confirming your data? Or some equivalent so I can prove the data belongs to a real person? NO NEED TO RESPOND HERE, I WILL PM YOU.

I would share my general experience with the community to see if this is actually a worthwhile diminished value strategy.

PS: Also hoping the 22k mile E70 X5M sold at Carmax, CA this month shows up on this forum.

Jeremy

PS: This is in addition to the Third Party Appraisal Report that was already prepared and submitted to Farmer's.

Too many variables and even if we gave you our data, it would still be a no go. Your best bet would be to take up with a car dealer, preferably a BMW dealer and ask them to write you on a letterhead as to what would they have paid with and without the accident.

That's how I did it when someone backed into my Porsche 997 TT 5 years ago and I was able to get about $4000 in diminished claim
