X5M Brake flush

Hi all. Just wondering if there's any special procedure to flushing the brakes on an M? Can I just use the bleeder tool and just pump it out with brake pedal? No need for abs bleed or anything like that?

And, just dot 4 fluid? Or something better like 600 F race brake fluid? What works best?

Thanks!

I think you need a scan tool to bleed properly. Maybe do a search on here.

I’ve done my X5M a few times without using a scan tool in the process. A few folks get nervous about skipping the ABS actuator step, but I don’t worry about that. Never have- across various M cars, lots of manufacturers, and my track cars.

Fluid should be a low viscosity version like Pentosin LV, but there are others.

Having a pressure bleeder is awesome. One of the best ~$100 car maintenance investments I’ve ever made!

Yes. Pressure Bleeder makes it a breeze. Tried the pump/bleed method and did not work for me. I just followed the Newtis brake fluid change procedure: right rear, left rear, front right, and left front, no abs procedure. That and BMW OEM DOT 4 Brake fluid and you are good to go.
