Hey guys...after putting the Velos tune back on my X5M, I am getting misfires under full load (but boy is she pulling hard!) Code is misfire on cylinder 5 - 002B1A.

I am going to change all the plugs and coils, but wondering if there are any specific plugs I should use to prevent misfires with the tune? Or just use OE Bosch from FCP Euro?

I use the NGK 97506 Plugs gapped to 0.020" and I'm also on Velos Stage 2 with catless downpipes. Also put in some Eldor coils when I swapped plugs a few thousand miles ago. Runs like a top.

I am also using the 97506 NGK's with Eldor coils and highly recommend them. This is in an tuned N63 which is harder on plugs and coils then a tuned S63 with the N's higher compression and smaller intercoolers. Get the Eldor coils from FCP, they are superior to Bosch and we're OEM for BMW for many years.

Thanks guys. I ordered the NGK plugs but couldn't find the Eldor coils on FCP so I ended up ordering Bosch coils.

Of course, I ended up finding the Eldors after but hoping the Bosch coils work.

These are the ones I'm running. You may not have found them as they don't list them as compatible with x5m but it is, under realoem.

Hey Guys,

Eldor vs Delphi on our E70 X5M question for you:

I'm in the same situation with a new Velos tune on my X5M requiring new plugs/coils to eliminate knock. My search for the best plugs and coils brought me here. I'm just a bit confused on the coil: should I go with Eldor or Delphi based on my correspondence with FCP below?

My question to the guys at FCP:
"Just double confirming these Eldor 12138657273 will fit my E70 X5M? I don't see the X5M listed on your fitment list, but this conflicts with my online search. Thanks!"

The answer posted by FCP Product Team:
"Delphi, p/n 12138616153, is the currently recommended ignition coil by BMW for the E70 X5 M."

Ya FCP doesn't have the correct list for the Eldors, said it would not fit mine either even through there were OEM for years for the N63/S63 and work perfect. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am running these in a tuned N63 which is harder on coils that a S63 due to the higher compression and smaller intercoolers and have approx 20K miles on them with no issues or misfires.

Here is a good video on the coils:

I ended up ordering the NGK's and Bosch coils.

Right after I ordered, FCP sent me the attached link which seems to indicate that the Bosch coil has been updated at some point. Maybe they're better now?

https://s3.amazonaws.com/fcp-pdf-files/KIT-00044X8.pdf

They'll be installed next week so I'll let you know how it goes. At the same time I'm also doing k&n drop ins, cabin air filters, and Liquimoly oil change with Cera Tec.

No question I would go with the Eldor vs. the Delphi. Just pulled this off my FCP Euro invoice for the part number I ordered: BMW Direct Ignition Coil - Eldor 12138657273

Great video Redneck. I'm thinking I should return the Bosch and get the Eldors...

I tried Bosch coils (Manufactured in Slovenia). Two coils malfunctioned on startup. Bosch sent out a notice that their new style coils no longer "click" on installation. You'll know the sound from prior Bosch coils.

I returned Bosch coils to FCP Euro and ordered Eldor which have perform very good for my s63 motor. I also ordered Eldor for 2011 X5 (3.5) N55 motor and colleague 328i e93.

Thanks guys!
And thank you Redneck for pointing us to that great video on coil options and quality.
FCP Euro has both the coils and plugs recommended here in stock, so I'm good to go.

For future reference:
Plugs: NGK 97506 (gapped at .020)
Coils: Eldor 12138657273

Thanks happy to help and big thanks to dude that made the video. I would seriously consider returning them if they have the made in Slovenia stamp on them. If they are made in Germany they will probably be ok but the Slovenia plant had serious quality control issues and I had misfires in 5 of my cylinders when I installed 8 new Bosch coils. Engine would barely idle before dying. Could not believe so many bad, even 1, would have been unacceptable though.

FYI - I found the Eldor coils for $6 cheaper each than FCP Euro. Saved about $50.

They might be cheaper but with fcpeuro you can replace them for free for life.

Would it be good to buy the Eldor coils and NGK spark plugs if I am running stock tune? If not, what is the best recommendation? Thanks!

For stock you can use 95770 which is suppose to be one step colder. Gapped to .022

I am nearing 63k miles, and last time my spark plugs were replaced at 33k - so I will soon need to replace them again. On the non-m X5 5.0 with N63, do these Eldor coils work?
