Looks to be the case, but I have no idea how it's done... For what it's worth, member "cybercoder" has one listed in the classifieds section that he will pre-code prior to the sale, so might be worth reaching out.

Normally you can install a used one, and it will pretty much work with nothing else, but the navigation portion won't work. There is some code that ties the navigation system to the car's vin. I think they are called FSC codes or something, but I can't remember the exact terminology. I replaced a CIC in my prior E90 M3 and had to remove the FSC from my old unit and import it into the new unit, but it was a hassle and I can't remember how exactly I did it.

There are also modules that you can buy that go between the car's wiring harness and the replacement unit that fool the navigation to think its in the original car also so that is probably a better option.

Thanks for that. You don’t happen to know what the modules are or where I can get one from do you. It sounds a lot easier with that

No,but I think a few places sell them, including ebay. I would recommend you google replacing CCC and or CIC. There is a lot of information out there about doing this. Particularly on the 3 series forums.

My e70 has lost audio and I replaced the amp which did not resolve the issue so I think I need to replace the head unit...

It is a 2007 X5 that did not have NAV and I believe it is a M-ASK unit. I have a CCC android unit installed which connects to the M-ASK unit like it is CCC.

I can code the head unit if needed but want to make sure I get one that is compatible... I don't care about any of the NAV functions because I have the android unit and use google maps for navigation (so I don't feel any need to upgrade to CIC, etc).

Can I replace the M-ASK with a CCC unit or does it need to be M-ASK?

Thanks,

Rich

If you want it to be easy replace the M-ASK with another M-ASK.

Hehe well that is true... e70 CCC units seem to be more common on ebay unless my search was flawed.

I did find a cheap CCC unit on ebay.

I found some info on the e60 forums about changing M-ASK to CCC. It seemed to be mainly fan wiring and either modifying a connector or getting a new one.

I will post my experiences....

Do you get any door chimes or ANY sound from the car's sound system?

If not then it might be as simple as a broken MOST connection somewhere.

E70 CCC No sound Solved: Bad Telemetrics Unit

I wasn't getting any chimes or sound from any source.

It turned out to be a bad telemetrics unit...

I decided to get a MULF2 Hi given that all of the telemetrics stuff is obsolete. I could have gone with a combo box for streaming bluetooth and other features but I have an android head unit which is CCC so I wouldn't need or be able to use most of the newer combox features...

For reference I had these strange symptoms before it failed which eventually pointed me to the TCU (telemetrics unit).

  • The radio would ocassionially change stations when I switched form park to drive (when getting the mail, etc). This seemed weird but If the TCU was on its way out it makes sense since it was on the CAN bus...
  • Friends would sometimes say that my bluetooth audio was garbled. It would be that way until turn the car off.
  • I would get sound cut outs with followed by a chime (this was more common in the days before it failed).

The MULF2 is almost pin compatible with the TCU. I bought a MULF2 High that came with a cut off pigtail. With that I was able to just swap the blue connector from the new unit with the white one that came on the E70. I then cut off the little tab on the creaminput on the MULF2 for the bluetooth antenna (white wire).

I got sound immediately when I turned the car on with the MULF2 but it is not currently pairing the bluetooth. I think I will have to code the car to get bluetooth back. This will likely mean writing the VIN to the MULF2 and then I expect that when I add 6FL to my VO that I will need to add the AUX wiring back to the MULF2 OR cod the radio to turn on its AUX inputs instead.

The audio quality should be better with the shielded AUX going to the MULF2 (instead of a converting to digital in the head unit and then sending it back to the MULF to be converted to analog again).

At any rate I know what failed now. I also have a spare CCC head unit and a spare PL4 Top Hifi amp... Does anyone need a CCC head unit?
