Well that sucks - NewTis shutdown!!!

Newtis.info, an amazing resource for anyone working on their BMW was shutdown. Now you must go to BMW's official site and pay (30 dollar day pass, 250 month).

I understand BMW had the legal right to do this but charging 250 a month is insane.

Install ISTA+ while you can before they cleanse the internet of it too as all workshop info comes with it.

Yup, saw that a couple of days ago. I went ahead and purchased an online manual for $15.

https://manualmagpie.com/

I just scanned through it a little bit so can't compare to newtis, whether it's the same or not.

Does it include the M platform for the E70 as it just shows X5 E70 and doesn't specify it has all engines/platforms?

Saw that newtis was shut down the other day and was pretty bummed. I wonder if there is some sort of archive of the site out there somewhere that will pop up soon. Definitely need to find another source for repair info. The prices BMW is trying to charge for access is insane.

Anyone know where the best source to install ista+ is? I did some searching a while back and some of the sites claiming to host the download didn't seem very reputable.

Bimmergeeks site has ISTA in their downloads section, it's huge (10gig) and you need to sign up with megadrive or what's it's called to download in a reasonable amount of time. It's the version I'm using and works excellent. I still used newtis instead of pulling up ISTA as it was just more convenient but at least with ISTA installed you have access to the entire workshop manual and don't need an internet connection. Follow the readme and watch the videos on YouTube on how to install. It's a bit of a pain.

On a side note, I was messing around in ISTA the other day and there's a section that will give you a read out of the fuel quality from your last five fill ups and also for entire life of the car. It does this by recording how noisy the knocks sensors have been. I've been using 4oz of boostane with 91 octane and all my fill ups have recorded in the excellent 96+ octane rating. Kinda cool and handy to check if you were buying a car, it also shows how many times someone used cheap gas in it.

That's good to know about the boostane. We have 92 octane here in Oregon and I use some 4oz boostane every few fillups and when I'm not using boostane I'll usually throw a bottle of Berryman B12 Chemtool in there to keep stuff clean.

And appreciate the info on the ISTA+ download. I'll have to get if figured out before they pull that as you said.

Anyone bought a manual from this website? I bought one for my 2013 BMW X5 but what I received was for 2009 X5. I am asking them to either refund the money or send me a correct one. See what happens.

newtis was a free online version of the shop manual that BMW techs use. Had all the DIY repair info you could ever need to get any job done all the way down to torque specs and photos/diagrams. It is/was an invaluable resource. Really hope a "pirate" version pops up somewhere hosted in country that won't allow BMW to take it down.

Do not use either emanualonline.com or manualmagpie.com for anything. Look either up online for reviews.

If you have a PC search threads that offer a mirror for the ISTA+ disc image and instructions to install. It may take a little time but worth the investment once setup.

GO to bimmergeeks website, they have it there under downloads. Its technically ISTA(D) but this is all we need for the E70, its what I have been using for over a year and works perfect. Well worth the time invested to install and learn it, there are powerful diagnostic tools built. For example, I was getting a Vanos code, and part of the troubleshooting was watching in real time how ISTA tested the pressures of the camshaft adjusters with the Vanos solenoids to determine the cause.

Found it for 8.99 from another seller with hundreds of positive reviews. Going to purchase it tonight and will post review up here and if its legit, will post a link to the seller. Even though I have ISTA already on my laptop, it would be nice to load up TIS on a tablet for easy reference.
