Downpipe CEL and emissions readiness

So I found out recently that just because the post cat sensors are removed from monitoring, the emissions readiness does not complete.

After speaking with someone they recommended these mini catted plugs that they have had luck with on BMWs.

For my recent tune I asked the tuner to not delete the post cats.

I'll try these mini cats out and post back in a few weeks once the system is able to run thru the cycle.

Had to take the whole top part of the heat shield off to get the sensors out for fitment.

Looks good

Interesting product. The problem is the pre cat and post cat 02 sensors are supposed to measure a flow difference that is caused by the catalytic converters. Typically what most people do is add an 02 sensor spacer post cat to mimic the flow difference of a cat when it has been removed. I’ve done this on some other cars, but you’d need a down pipe with ports for the post cat 02 sensors along with spacers. Not sure your going to be able to pass emissions without the second set of sensors. They will show not ready all the time.

Anyway let us know how this works it’s not a product or solution I’ve seen before.

This should work, but let's see. I've heard from a F10 (550) N63 owner and a F90 (M5) S63 owner that this worked for them.

So I drove around, got one code coming up which was 2C7F (post cat sensor, bank 2)

I cleared it, drove around some more...got it again.

I then swapped the post cat sensors from bank 2 to bank 1.

Drove around again and now I'm getting code 2C7E (post cat sensor bank 1).

Will be ordering a new sensor to replace the faulty one. Will report back in a few days.

(My previous tune deleted these bank 2 sensors from monitoring so I guess I never knew they were on their way out). The sensors have approx 85k on them.

My new sensor just came in today. Installed and will go for a drive later today. The code usually comes up within 30 miles. I'll report back by end of this weekend.

Great news. Though with still not ready listed on your scan that would not pass here. Can’t speak of other locations. Everything has to show ready or not supported to pass.

Just a warning however, I’ve seen not readiness codes pop up as much as 200 miles after. Also most inspection places require that no reset has occurred in at least 200 miles and so many days. Basically to stop folks who just reset the check engine light.

I’ve been down this road with other cars. However this is the 1st one I’ve seen that removed the post cat 02 sensors and can still show ready. Normally it takes both sets of sensors to show ready. Wonder if the second set show missing?

Well not sure if you read my entire post but I advised that it's still got to go thru it's cycle. For now at least it isn't throwing codes and for once the catalyst system shows ready. So that's very promising. I'll report back when it's ready or if it throws a code or if it still showing not ready after some time.

All that needs to complete now is the fuel system and evap to show fully ready.

My inspection isn't until March so I've got a lot of time to drive and out miles thru it.

I don't know what you mean by post cat sensors removed. All the sensors are installed and plugged in. Just the post cat sensors have the mini catted non foulers installed before them.

For now ..these are promising results.

Interested to see if this works. I have my emission check coming up in January here in OR and need to figure something out.

Not sure if I should just go and fail and find a way to get some sort of "fix-it" extension until I move to WA in June where they have no emissions testing. Really don't want to spend time putting the stock downpipes and tune back on when I won't have to worry about emissions at all in the near future.

If the mini-cats end up not working I'm thinking about these:

http://www.******.ca/io2/
Pricey since we will need two but worth it if works

EDIT: Hmmm the forum keeps knocking out the web address, replace the astrix with area 74 no space between area and 74, for some reason that is censored here If area and 74 are put together without a space????
