Dawgz - First off, I want to give ALL the credit where credit is due and tell you thank you for putting this up and sharing your experience and guidance for this setup and installation. I finally completed mine and copied your setup and cleaned it up a bit by adding Fiberglass heat sleeve to the tubes with heat shrink to seal it all up. I have to admit, you weren't joking that putting the tube over the VC and intake connections was a real PIA and took heating the tube up with a heat gun to soften the rubber and then lots and lots of pressure and pain - LOL. Setup came out nice and even just after a few miles it's already capturing vapors and I was impressed how much oil was in the crossover tube when I first removed the stock piping and I only have 20K miles on my X5M.
Here's some pics of my setup as well: |

You did great!!! Glad it worked out for you, just keep an eye on the can via the dip stick and drain it frequently. |

no problem. Its amazing how much gets collected. Imagine though, these vapors coating the valves and head over time....the intercoolers, etc. Everything just gunked over time. So surprised that they went with this design on a direct injected motor.

Yeah, a lot of that looks to be condensation as when I first completed it and drove her around 5 miles I had probably 20cc's of water in the cans. Emptied them and haven't had any since, but they are definitely working as I pulled the passenger side canister tonight after around 60 miles of driving and had a few drops of pure oil and no condensation.

Any reason why the two inlets to the baffle couldn't be teed for one larger canister vs. dual cans? I have a larger Mighty Mouse sitting around here that needs to go in something.

You could, the stock system does merge at a section. Just make sure your catch can of choice has appropriate baffles or you won't catch much of the vapors. |

Updated the routing for the bank 1 hoses.
I didn't like how the hose was kinking on the intake and the intercooler. Used the following: • 45 degree 5/8 Barb to 10 AN male • 10 AN female to 5/8 barb |

Awesome work in this thread, well done!
$0.02 I can imagine why BMW designers didn't add catch cans, imagine REQUIRING weekly (or even monthly) maintenance by owners to empty the cans. Curious, is there a solution in more recent engines or is this something that's a nice to have?

This thread helped. Thanks to the originator for creating it. Things I did differently was add push lock connectors but still adding clamps for peace of mind. I've since them pop off on the race track before. Also, I hate putting too much effort into stuffing the 5/8" hose on the VC and return hose. I used 3/4" hose and added a 3/4" to 5/8" connector. Makes life easier.

Awesome parts list, advice, and setup on this thread. Followed it, and below is my setup (I paid 6 extra bucks for the blue and red connectors ... ha). I was even able to get the PCV lines that go lower on the block.
