Initially M Roadsters and M Coupes had the ‘WBS’ VIN. DOT at that time allowed it because the S52 & S54 engines were manufactured in Germany. That later changed and they received ‘5UM’ VINs. Those same guidelines are still in place today.

BMW does it with the current G42... they are all made in Mexico and if they come to the US and maybe some other countries they have a vin starting with 3MW... but if it goes to Europe people have reported that they have a VIN starting with Europe code.

U.S. G87 VINs begin with 3MF.

Here are some interesting photos. Note that both the TR X3M and the Porsche Guards Red look fairly similar in person, at least inside. I looked at them repeatedly back to back. The TR looks even "reder" (lol, is that even a word???) in low or overcast lighting.

And by the way, the Portland Auto Show has a 760iL in Brooklyn Grey. Maybe it's just too big for that color, but it looked very pasty.

More and more comfortable with TR now that I've seen it in person.

No offense but they dont look the same. The Porsche red has a red richness that the TR doesn't.

Yet the photo that I have previously posted of a TR XM which was taken outdoors is.

Below is a TR G80 photo that I took at the SC PC and in direct sunlight.

As a photographer, I can tell you the car (and foreground) in the photo is overexposed.

Stopped by my dealership to see BG and switch from ZB to BG. They didnt have any new TR cars but I did see a BSM in the showroom. Very unimpressed (as I was expecting something different, I guess). It didn't look like a true "black" but instead a very dark charcoal black with high lever of flake.

But T.U.D..... the Marina Bay or Portimao Blue in the background also looks totally washed out. Not at all like they look in real life. Not sure any camera catches TR color well in direct sunlight.

The PROBLEM is that we're all arguing about how washed out or NOT washed out a particular color is because BMW gave us such a limited and unimaginative group of colors for launch.

Why not Technoviolet, Laguna Seca, Hellrot or San Marino???

The solution is quite simple - buy and drive what you like and in the color most pleasing. For those not ordering TR you will regret it LOL! Its the best color and we all know it!!

In the world around me here in Europe - black/white/grey/silver are everywhere. Blah. Get red enjoy some color in your life. What goes better with a sunny blue sky???? TR LOL

And that is why they make chocolate and vanilla. For me, not a fan of brighter versions of red. Burgadny/wine/brick reds, maybe a different story. I also am not a fan of white, black and silver but certain true grays and putty colors look great. BG, while it is a metallic, the flake size is very small so it really given the appearance of a nonmetallic and not only looks great on its own but with the cf and the rims below..

Oh, and as for reds like TR here in Florida...they can be synonymous with tickets.

Just checked our 230i and the vin starts with WBA confirming your comment.

Yeah it’s definitely not the best red but I agree with others saying it’s the most exciting option.

I’m beating a dead horse here but I still can’t believe that ZB is a color option and the launch color at that.
