E70 X5M: Code P0444 Evap Solenoid

Vehicle runs fine, but I just threw a P0444 code today.
I couldn't find much of anything on that generic code other than at this link:
https://www.carobdcode.com/p0444-bmw...e-circuit-open

I'll start by replacing the fuel cap as I didn't love the fit of the aftermarket one on the thing when I bought it in Dec anyway. Plenty of emissions issues could be with that iffy cap...

If the gas cap ain't it, that link suggests to me it might be worth trying the $95 part (vapor canister purge solenoid) before taking it for a more complete diagnosis.

Any other pre-service shop suggestions?
Thanks!

I've only driven it a little bit since swapping the mediocre aftermarket gas cap for an OE BMW one, but the CEL may have gone away. At least, it didn't come back quickly as it had after clearing it before.

Still welcome any internet diagnosis though. :-)

Everywhere I've read and what I experienced with the same code on my X3 was the gas cap. Hopefully it stays off, because digging deeper can be challenging.

And... the error came back so the gas cap wasn't the issue (yet, anyway).

Recently, my X5 began to exhibit signs of a failing battery: high discharge warning, random anti theft alarm going off, inconsistent comfort key functions, etc. With "low voltage" faults across a number of systems according to the new Foxwell 520 I bought (assuming I'd need to register a new battery), I'm wondering if the evap solenoid error was a bad battery all along.

You all probably don't actually want me to keep you in the loop, but I'll do so anyway. Haha.

Of course we do, because when one of us get the same down the road, it's great to search and have something to check or a place to start. Knowing what fixed it for you will really help others, even if they don't comment. The internet and these forums are for exactly that in my opinion, information sharing.

When the battery goes tits up, it starts doing all sorts of funky things and shutting down systems and devices as needed to keep enough power to start and run the vehicle. Let us know if a new battery clears it up.

Ok. You got me. ;-)
You pointed out why I'm posting at this point. The sarcasm got lost here, but I so appreciate when people include their own fits-n-starts with similar trouble shooting.

Cheers!

I had not, but will. Might be most helpful once I obtain any BMW specific one, assuming the new code reader/device can provide it.

New battery has been installed for a week...

I have driven it with the new battery for a handful of trips now, and the warning light has not returned. As it's not a DD for me, I'll need a few more start/stop cycles before claiming victory.

[Edit] Added info...
Had almost 3 weeks with the new battery and no return of the evap fault, then it came back. Seems I get the fault light/code when restarting a warm-ish engine.
Cold? No problem.
Hot? No problem.
Operating temp only 20-30 greater than cold + restart ~5 min later? Fault code.

Will replace the part once weather warms up and I don't need the garage space for winter storage...

Finally addresed the issue by replacing both solenoids. Parts were ~$80 each. Labor at my indy was only about 2.5 hrs.

Before having the work done, I had increasing difficulty fueling up without the vapor pressure sensor or whatever fighting me at ~3/4 of a tank. First auto stop would be 3-4 gallons less than full. That problem stopped after replacement of the evap solenoids.
