Today I finally got rid of the EGR valve and swirl flaps (also tuned for it). Full brake job and parking brake actuator. Glow plugs and module. Rear NOX sensor. At 152k miles and still runs great!

Pardon my ignorance, but is that just to redirect air flow more directly to the intake? Also, what material is it made of?

This is cool! I added scoops on my E90... can't say it's helping, but don't think it's hurting! I wonder why the E70 has those rear-facing kind, sucking in air from the low pressure area?

Yes, exactly that, made from 2mm thick carbon steel sheet.

In the dyno of my mind, the car became more powerful!

It doesn't make sense for the intake to be pointed downward.

Swapped out the decomposing passenger grab handle. Easy 5 min job with an amazing ROI!

Some more interior upgrades: LED lighting, fan button, phone mount, and most importantly, a red start button!

Also threw in some new cabin air filters. All were pretty filthy. The interior one really shows the before and after!

While under the dash I fished out the wiring for the foot light and plugged it in. It was stuffed up behind the vent for some reason. Don't know if from the factory like that, or if the filter was changed previously (73k miles on it, guesses on that?). I read on here somewhere that another person had the same problem, so guess it's officially a thing!

Rear brake job went sideways... couldn't get the the carrier bolts off. Spent a LONG time trying, and just couldn't budge them. So ended up just doing brake pads and not rotors (rotors are still fine, I was just doing them while I was in there). CBS won't reset, so maybe the sensor was worn through. No warning being thrown, so don't know about that. So yeah, new pads, but pretty annoyed as well.

While opening up the front end to check brake fluid level, saw HUGE water ingress into the engine bay. I think the drains were plugged up with debris so I cleaned and flushed as best I could, but I also don't know how so much water got in there. Maybe as much as two liters on each side. Almost up to the wiring harness on the right side!

Day two of the weekend of fun!
I started out with the rotors, determined to make it happen! Used a jack on a breaker bar and it was 100% easy! The left side was no problem pushing down on, but that right was tough for some special reason or another. The dust covers for the guide pins were missing on that side as well, so I'm calling shenanigans on the quality of past work done there!

Here's the left side in-process:

Next up, I jacked the front up and put all four ends on stands and started in on differentials. Rear kind of sucked as I couldn't find my hand pump so had to end up using a big 100ml syringe. Took forever and that oil is thick! It definitely came out a bit grimy, so needed a change (I'm at 73k miles).

Front diff was a pain but in a different way. That fill plug on the left side is just no bueno. Coming in from the wheel well works okaaaaaay, but access is still awkward at best. That took a long time to disassemble everything to gain access. Filled up with 600ml (I've read both that and full liter, so???) and decided to to the transfer case when I do the transmission over winter break.

Tomorrow: New tires! Not looking forward to the bill on that. Probably going with Contis as they come in about $400 less than Michelins.

Painted the wiper arms back to factory trim paint. The passenger side was a bit faded. Used trim restore for the wiper cowl and replaced the cowl grommets.

Amazing job, I can't imagine the amount of wrenching involved!
Are you able to sell off the third row to someone to recoup some costs?

I mentioned the tires on my new to me Xer were pretty worn. Well, over the weekend I spent a good 10 hours working on the vehicle, and noticed not only were they worn, but two of them were bubbling up on the sides. So what I hoped to put off till the new year quickly became a rush job to get new tires before holiday traveling!

On go some Contis. They have a $110 rebate right now which took some of the sting away, but I forgot how expensive 20" tires are... ouch!

Did the European fog light mod on the X5. I have now done it on the E90, the F10, and the E70! E70 was the most hassle as I needed to run an extra wire between the switch and the FRM. Not a big deal, just required a stop at the dealer for the $4 wire. All the info is here:
https://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-for...rear-fogs.html

Here's the wire I picked up from North Scottsdale BMW (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND VERY HELPFUL!):

The guts:
