I admit it! I parked my X5!!
Just for a week or two. It technically needs a wheel bearing, but is fine to drive for now. I just had the urge to drive stick, so I'm driving the ZHP for 2 weeks. I'm also teaching a friend to drive manual during lunch breaks, which is always fun. ZHP has 257k on the original clutch and flywheel. I figure now's the time to let people learn, I'll have to do it before too long. The clutch grabs wonderfully, but the Dual mass flywheel has no more rubber left in it. It shakes like crazy on cold mornings!

Wrapped the turbos and cats. What a PITA job! But hopefully this will radically improve the engine bay temperatures.

Once you do it your third time it starts to get super easy. All you really need to do is break-it loose and it loosen by hand easily. Also you definitely need to remove the top bracket holding the dpf because it'll get in the way of pushing the dpf up enough to get a socket in with a swivel attachment.

Apparently another way is to go in from the wheel well but who wants to screw around with that shit

How does the cover attach?
It looks nice and tempts me but it may affect airbag deployment.

It's helped with the lack of low end response/throttle. It was worth the money spent, and I would recommend it given the relatively low $/ HP&TQ.

Thanks for the recommendation. I think I will get that tune.

Was ready to do my trans fluid change and seals, and the metal gasket was very nicely folded right in half somewhere along the way in shipping, so another week delay... all my stuff just sitting and waiting to do the trans and transfer case servicing, and updating to the newer style low fuel pressure sensor, since I have had a code for that sensor since I bought my rig back in 2017.

So what was the process to add the paddle shifters?

I got a wheel with paddle shifters and heat and somehow, very luckily, the paddle shifters just worked with no wiring or coding.

I’ve figured out the wiring for heat and lane departure to work at the same time, paddles just worked right away.
I’ve trimmed the inside of the wheel to accommodate all modules and departure motor.
I just need to swap my leather over from my wheel to the heated wheel and swap the departure button.

It’s done. If it wasn’t one issue, it was another, and the last issue. The dang lane departure and multimedia buttons are too big to fit on the heated wheel button block. I can live with no multimedia button.
I need to figure out the lane departure button though.

50i: Front differential and transfer case fluids.
Front differential had almost a liter of fluid. Was reading those only should get 600ml.
Reset adaptations on TC with Foxwell nt530. It definitely did something on reset, heard a quick whir sound.

Prepping for transmission fluid and filter.

Very nice!

The other day I sent off my DDE, CAS, and key to a service to have my DDE no start condition cleared (Incorrect DEF error).

Word of advice to diesel owners. Don't EVER reset SCR codes. Work through the ISTA test plan to get the truck to clear it on its own. I reset the original SCR efficiency code and it triggered the no start countdown. I'm learning the hard way on how to diag the diesel emissions system. Hopefully you won't have to.

While I wait for my modules to come back I figured I'd finish modding the headlights. Did the driver's side a long time ago but the vehicle has been down so the motivation to do the RHS as been minimal.

While taking everything apart I'm doing some cleaning while in the wheel wells, and the under body shields now that I am done working underneath it. I don't know what we are going to do with this thing after it's done. I think we're leaning towards selling it but I think we'd be asking a ludicrous price for it given all the work it's had. Guess I'll drive it around with the FS sign and have it on CL and see what happens. Got nothing to lose really.

Finally a good wash, first with the new set of tires ( Vredestein Quadrac Pro).
As the alloys are concerned, they were already in this state when I bought the car, so perhaps next year they are in for a refurbishment.
Just wondering, would they look better in black?
Your opinions would be highly appreciated.
