F85 rotors on e70 x5m

Anyone who has does this swap, any noticable braking differences?

Looking for a justification on the cost other than looks. I'm perfectly fine with the stock blank rotors for the e70.

I've seen it done on this forum. I think the posts were from a ways back but the F85 rotors just bolt right up - minus one set screw. If I recall correctly the E70 rotors use two set screws and the F85 only use one so you'll have a leftover bolt.

As for improved performance I doubt you'd notice any. You would probably need to upgrade the calipers to 6 pot front and 4 pot rear to really notice any difference in braking performance. The improved looks are ALMOST worth the cost imo.

Eh, it's twice the cost just for looks. I'll pass on em then.

I'm going for the retrofit where I'm installing the 6 pot F10 M5 brake calipers on the front and 4 pot panamera calipers in the rear.

Initially I was going to also go for the drilled rotors but after taking a look at the price, I'm sticking with the non-drilled and don't think it'll make much of a difference aside from looks. A beefy 395 in the front, and 385 in the rear doesn't look all that bad either.

Yup.

Do those calipers need a different bracket or do those bolt right up?

I'll be using the same f85m adapters that work for the e70. The rears need custom ones made by tronik.

The stock e70 X5M front calipers are pretty good, best braking performance I've ever felt.

It's like the hand of Thanos grabbing the rotor. Now that's some stoppage. 😂

That's really not how brakes work you know.

In a single panic stop, assuming both have the same tires. The non-X5M will stop just the same as the X5M.

Repeat that exercise multiple times, back to back, and you'll see where the extra rotor mass comes into play though...

Of course, there is no discounting the feel of freshly flushed brakes, and a fixed caliper over year old fluid and a sliding caliper too.

In many cases, more pistons in a caliper, may mean smaller pistons, and sometimes in properly designed braking systems, move bias rearwards. So your larger multi-piston brake system, actually clamps LESS than, the factory system. Crazy right?! Science, it's cool stuff

No idea where you're getting these assumptions from 😂

Where is the non x5m in the conversation above? I'm using the stock x5m caliper on my x5m. I said it works just fine so I don't see how going to the 6 pot is going to be much more different and worth the change.

I use these rotors on my E70. https://www.r1concepts.com/detail_ca...otor+silver+++

Keep and eye out for their frequent sales of up to 20-30% off. Along with EBC red stuff pads, the stopping is improved and they look great. That being said, there is nothing wrong with OEM stopping performance, this just takes it up a notch.

EDIT: Just got an email with a 30% off coupon MOREPOWER for today only, which brings down the price of a complete set of 4 rotors (slotted and drilled) for $243.38 +tax. (free shipping)

Here is what they look like on my X5. (Sorry not the best pics, but hopefully you get an idea)

I used https://www.brakenetic.com/product/f...ors-bprs94699/ Slotted rotors and EBC Red stuff pads for my X5 V8 and its stops from 80mph like it hit a wall

Yes and yes.
My front rotors are F10 M5 which are slightly larger and noticeably lighter than the F85s but front calipers and rear rotors are F85.

X5M OEM brakes are more than good enough IMO, even for my stage 1 tune. On the looks department, painting my calipers in Blue on my Carbon Black Metallic X5M made me more than happy.

I'd like to add this to the OEM+ list for my 35d. After researching numerous threads, I was hoping someone could just verify the following as no one has really given a part number breakdown of all parts needed.

Parts Needed:
E70 X5M Front Calipers (L) - 34116789341
E70 X5M Front Calipers (R) - 34116789342
E70 X5M Rear Calipers (L) - 34216789349
E70 X5M Rear Calipers (R) - 34216789350
E70 X5M Rear Carriers (2) - 34216789351
SS Brake Lines - 002565ECS01AKT2
F85 Front Rotor Set Screws (2) - 34111123072
F85 Rear Dust Shields (2) - 34216857982
F85 Front Rotors - 34112284901KT
F85 Rear Rotors - 34212284904KT
OEM Brake Fluid - 81220142155 (or any alternative)

E70 X5M Rear Carriers - 34216789351 or is it 34217847226? to clear the F85 rotors?

Are those F10 M5 floating rotors (stock X5M are floating) vs people posting aftermarket drilled/slotted rotors that aren't? I replaced the brakes on my X5M and not paying attention got non-floating, there's definitely a weight difference so I'm looking to go back to at least stock or other stock+ options.

Is there an issue with the the rear rotor not being hub centric since our rear hubs are 72.5 & the F85 has 74.1mm hubs?

E71 X6M here. I went with the OEM F8x rotors because it was very difficult to find anything slotted or cross drilled. (Paired with EBC reds) The OEM F8x came cross drilled. Above is correct, only thing needed was the set screws. Very expensive but happy with their performance and looks. I did not want blanks again and they were only marginally more than OEM blanks. Would buy them again.
