Hello. Looking to potentially purchase a 2011 x5 35d with roughly 120k miles. The owner is a friend of mine who brought it to Indy mech who states the vehicle requires a new “oil pan” and that he “would not drive this vehicle” lol. From my understanding the vehicle has a slow oil leak but Im receiving this info 3rd hand from the owner. I will be calling mechanic tomorrow to confirm. This Indy is a BMW specialist but honestly I own an m5 and have talked to this individual and let’s say I would not take my vehicle to him. My m5 is a maintenance queen so not trying to get into the 35d platform if it requires a lot of TLC. But I’m also curious as to what other may think is causing the leak. From my limited research I’m seeing issues like valve covers and gaskets are pretty common. Indy also stated to owner that the repair requires a “special tool” that he would need to order to compete the repairs. Any help would be great. Sorry for long post fellas !! Thank
FYI. The owner is asking 5k for the truck with 120k miles. The price seems very good given the lower mileage so this is the only reason I possibly thinking of buying and repairing. Update: Spoke with mechanic and he seems to think the leak is coming from either oil pan gasket or timing cover gasket. Said if you are looking at a clock / front of vehicle it’s leaking in about the 6oclock position. Any suggestions? Thanks |
