X6 roof rail

Hello guys:
This is my first post on this forum, want to say hello to everyone ~~

I'm going to order a 2011 X6, and i want to get a silver roof rail like some of the member's X6, however, i dont see roof rail as an option on BMW site.

Can this rail be ordered directly from MFG? If not, where can i get those rails and what's the $$?

Cheers.

DON'T GET THE ROOF RAILS. It's pretty much the concensus here on the forum. Takes away the lines of the car.

Bware of parkade height at the entry.
Depands on your height, U may need running boards, which is not wide, to stand on if u actually use it. Or u may need a step ladder.

You can order it from your dealer. I think it cost about $250 to install, I forgot what the actual price. I was about to get it when i first got the car but decided not to because of the small running board.

Ask your CA about ordering them from the factory when the car is built. I'm pretty sure that its on the order sheet. I think its a $350 option.

ebay had some BMW dealerships (not aftermarket accessory suppliers, but actual BMW dealerships, east coast USA I think?) that were selling the matte black and silver versions for between $300 - $500 USD. for some reason, one color was significantly cheaper than the other.
I considered buying and installing myself (and from what i understand from past research on the forums, installation does NOT require removing the interior headliner...), but I never pulled the trigger.

aside: not to offend anyone, but I've always found it funny that people make recommendations about purely subjective and aesthetic matters based on "concensus" (e.g. consensus among forum gods is that the roof rails are ugly). i say upholster your car with atroturf and get a horn that plays "la cucaracha" if it floats your boat.

let us know how the roof rail decision goes, post pics if you get 'em.

Roof rails from dealer

I ordered the rails and cross bars from the dealer when i bought the car. I love the look of them ( black on black ). I think the whole kit cost me about $750 installed but numbers could be off because they were put on with purchase. They look great and are great for carrying anything you dont want to put in the car.

Red face

I needed roof rails for my bike but decided against it because of the cost and the install. They have to open the roof liner and drill holes in the roof to bolt on the roof rack. The rack isn't a great look for the X6. The after market Thule can be removed when you're not going to the mountains. The rack also creates a lot of wind/noise turbulence which takes away from your smooth ride.
