Carbon Fiber Front Lip X5M (NIB)
I found a local fab shop willing to make me a Carbon Fiber Front Lip and it turned out amazingly... that said. I had them make me a second one as well and while I originally got it just in case the first one got trashed somewhere. It now seems kinda pointless to have it just lingering. So... Carbon front lip f/s - First $700 OBO plus shipping takes it. Available for pics on Thursday |

OE is so much cleaner and simpler than the other aftermarket ones. A replica will be awesome.

Well folks...
Had a long convo last night and will be heading up to Stillwater this week to mock up a mold for a front lip with the middle included. Our conversation comes with a good bit of hesitance on both sides, beginning on his end. The lips he made for me he covered cost of materials on knowing that there's no risk in my commitment. No offense to any of you, but I/we don't know any of you personally. That said this goes into another realm of actual business and that's new to me, but not to him. He has apprised me that there are many things to consider in making this leap. In order to keep this in bounds for both of us he wants me to establish an LLC and purchase the raw materials on my dime and then contract him to manufacture. There are legal incentives for both of us to operate this way and it's going to take some time and legwork. I think I'll also need to look at being an accredited vendor here on the forum as I don't want to put my communication path in jeopardy. Without further rambling... I need to get a count from you collectively and crunch some numbers to see if this is going to make fiscal sense or if I'm going to be in a risk venture mode. Reviewing above there are three requested/possible variants of front lip and the rear diffuser seems like a no brainer standard design. Who is interested in: 1. An OEM style lip - just a simple single ridge protruding from the OEM bumper. 2. The fang lip - the lip pictured above with a gap in the middle of the fangs 3. The full lip - with a fluid line between the fangs and extending back to the existing body line. What you're referring to as the schmorsteiner style. 4. The rear diffuser - a carbon fiber cover that runs identical to the factory lines above the exhaust but with a bit more pronounced set of fins Please give me a count if you are interested with replies like: 1 and 4 3 and 4 3 4 Let's start like this and see where it goes. |

I'll post up pics of both and compare and call out any flaws I see. He said he wasn't particularly happy with the way the weave laid down on some of the curves on the one I got already, but I wasn't in the know enough to be able to discern any quality issues. (Other than he didn't punch out the hole for the proximity sensor.) All this said... I'm not sure how much sense it makes to make only a few of these which is likely why someone else hasn't stepped up to do this yet. Niche is a bitch apparently. Again... not committing to anything nor asking any of you to do so yet. I just want to see what the demand might be. |
