Interested in some more feedback. Anyone made any videos of the throttle blip and the shifts in manual mode? I didnt think the transmission was too bad in this compared to the Nissan/Infiniti world until i spent some time in the new ZF 8AT boxes. Most annoying thing of the TCM logic is how it refuses to downshift uphills.

Maybe its just me but I had stage 3 on my X6 M. To be honest I didn't feel any difference when driving. Maybe the shifting was a bit smoother but I couldnt tell at all. just my 2c.

Just flashed stage 3 tonight - newest version which I believe is 1.03. Can't test it out till tomorrow and even then they recommended a 50 mile or so break in period.
I'll post up some thoughts after I get a chance to drive with it for a bit.

The one thing I hate about the stock TCU mapping....is that it Loves 6th gear. Every chance it gets, it wants to get into 6th. I get it's for fuel economy but you're also bogging the engine at lower speeds. Over time it's stress on the bearings. |

So here are some thoughts after about 120 miles of driving with the Stage 3 tune flashed:
- Cruising around in D is now tolerable. The transmission isn't in a race to 6th gear and when it does get to 6th it's much easier to get it to shift down to 5th/4th with minimal throttle input. I NEVER drove in D prior to the tune and now I'm apt to just cruise in D here and there and not worry about shifting. - Shift points through the gears in D is much improved. It holds gears a touch longer but not too long to seem "uncomfortable". - When driving in manual mode and coming to a stop transmission no longer auto shifts into 1st - was always an annoyance for me since 1st gear is more or less pointless unless starting on a steep incline. - Somehow the 2-3 shift in manual is smoother but at the same time quicker/more crisp. Prior to the tune it was a bit "grabby" on occasion and this is almost 100% gone now. All shifts in general are also quicker/more crisp feeling. It's no DCT but it's improved from stock for sure. - No longer kicks down in manual mode if you get on the throttle lower in the rpm. - The instant torque converter lockup after liftoff if definitely noticeable and a good feeling. Also, when starting off in 2nd in manual you can feel the clutches not slipping like they do with the stock tune to give a "smooth" feel like most would want on a stock car. - I haven't messed with S mode much yet but the brief time I did it felt pretty aggressive - holding gears and shifting quicker than stock. Can provide more feedback after trying out this mode. - Overall I feel like it was well worth the $240 or whatever it was - something like $160 for the license and $75 for the map pack. Any specific questions just let me know.

Just mapped the car with a stage 3. Omg what a difference. Feels less sluggish, more enjoyable. I plan on flashing it with some custom edits to the flash. Some throttle blips maybe. So far so so good. Drove it through the city seemed very smooth. No more sluggish transmission jag when shifting. Car doesn't rise or lower when shifting either. I didn't do the 15psi increase to shifting pressure, may choose to do that with the custom edits. [IMG][/IMG] |

Just really took the car out on open roads to see what it's all about and wow. The shifting is super fast in S mode. It def feels like a DCT.
Highly recommend this product |

I've wanted this for a while, but haven't pulled the trigger... your review might've finally pushed me over the line...

Another reason to do this mod is mostly for its shift points. The stock TCU map lugs the engine so often because its in 6th gear almost all the f*n time. Your bearings will take a hit every time it does this.
With the stage 3 tune, it no longer hunts for 6th gear, and when it is in 6th gear and you apply a little bit of throttle, itll drop to 5th to get you going. Before it would stay in 6th and load up the engine unnecessarily. Eco friendly? yes...friendly on your internals? nope. Performance is a bonus to the tune. But i think the shift points are the main selling point here. |
