Is there any issue with using a portable jump starter such as this one on an X5?

Using it of course in the engine bay with the Positive connection.

I personally have not used the one you listed but this one works well from Noco for my x5 35d:

It's a bit overkill but they also have smaller units.

I used the Noco one and it jump started my X5 just fine.

Its lithium powered, it will start even F350 6.7l diesel on -20.

I have an iClever Boostcell ECO Series. Model: IC-JB11R. Works just fine. Got it for $50 on Amazon. They have newer model now.
