How bad is this tire gash?

Hit a pothole and it took a piece rubber in the sidewall. Should I replace it? The tire has under 1500 miles, so it’s going to hurt if I have to replace it .

If that were my tire I'd definitely replace it. Sucks but I'd say that sidewall integrity is pretty compromised.

Yes sir, $350 dollar bill is much better than getting a couple of thousand dollars ER bill, a gash and a permanent scar on your face

My willingness to live with slightly compromised tires is greater than most, but I’d just keep a watchful eye on it if it were mine. I’ve been told the structure is all about the cords/belts and sidewall rubber is principally there to protect them.

I have not run track days with such damage, but I have gone years with a similar condition on the street. Looks ok to me.

Thanks everyone, attaching some more pics to give a better idea. I just learned about Continental Road hazard warranty for tires purchased within the last 12 months, I might pursue that and see where it goes.

Yep, the tire has to go.
With 1500 miles on it, the warranty should cover for this.
