X5M Guibo Flexdisc and Center Bearing

Gents,

Anyone tackle this? I was scooting around under the car and noticed mine was shredding. I’m guessing I should replace the center bearing also? Looks like I have to take off the exhaust, plastics, and heat shielding to reach the shaft. I’m pretty sure I dont have to drop the whole shaft...and I don’t want to have to replace stuff on the diff end. I think just flex disc, center bearing, sleeve, bolts and nuts. I didn’t see a requirement for washers on the X5M on realism...was all grayed out. Thoughts?

Also, I called an Indy and they said $600 to replace guibo only...eek

Hopefully the driveshaft design is like the older BMWs where there are splines where it can slide back a little. This is usually enough to swap the fexdisc without pulling the whole driveshaft out.

You might be catching this before there's any damage to the center bearing or the rubber surrounding it.

Thanks! I'm gonna give it a go. I already have the flex disc, forgot about ordering the other stuff. Bolts, and center bearing enroute...just in case

I finally got around to dropping the exhaust and taking a better look at everything. The Guibo does have little cracks and some big chunks taken out. The Center bearing mount has a coating flaking off with minor cracking in the rubber underneath. I have all the parts, just have to get at it after figuring out how to throw it in neutral to be able to rotate the shaft...the red disconnect tool?

I'm getting a driveshaft recall done shortly... has anyone had this done and know what's involved? It doesn't include guibo / centre bearing by chance? I have a clunking sound when I go in reverse, and the car needs a good amount of throttle to start moving.

Recall is for the front drive shaft only. The M doesn’t have a flex disc on the front shaft

I’m at 74k miles now. I ended up swapping only the flexdisc. It is a considerable task disconnecting the driveshaft pieces and removing the center bearing. It actually calls for a special tool. When I went to separate the shaft I found that I had to break an internal plastic ring to pull it apart...after Messi g with it for some time I decided it wasn’t worth the trouble since it all looked in good shape. I’ll post about the parts with pics tomorrow.
