5000km changes...crikey...

I'm thinking of going to 12K...which many would deem excessive in itself. I don;t track the vehicle, drive spiritedly....and don't burn oil....For that matter neither does our F25 X3 28i....still on dealer 10K changes....
Yeah in our extreme heat, 125f it helps. You should see the oil after 5k kms. It's like black water lol

I would not use anything lower than 4.0+ HTHS 5w40 in a motor that produces 700Nm of torque and the relevant loads to its engine components.

5W30 or 5W40 are recommended for S63

I use Lubro Moly 5W40 http://www.liqui-moly.de/liquimoly/p...l?Opendocument
Agree that every reference I've ever found says 5W-30 or 5W-40 for the X5M. I use the LM 5W-40 in my M. I'm a big fan of their products. I also add two cans of MoS2 at each oil change. My last Z4 had 230K on the clock and always got the MoS2 treatment. I still ran like new when I sold it.

Really you can do 2 cans of mos2 treatment? I thought it would be too much per oil change.

MoS2 says it treats 3-5 liters of oil. S63 engine takes 9.5 liters. So I figure two cans is ok

I Couldn't agree more! I use that exact same oil & 2 cans of Mos2 oil treatment every 5k in my n63, which shares every same internal part (save for exhaust camshaft & pistons) as the s63. I am at 182k miles with the original engine and I am now officially as fast as brand new 2022 X5M with the new intake I am making for the 50i & M.

Think about that, 10 years, 182K miles and able to pull the same 3.6 zero to 60 times as a brand new engine in the 2022 X5m(video below). The Mos2 IMHO is what allowed the engine to live this long, I mean this is the engine BMW lost a class action law suit to and very, very few ever see much past 120k miles, let alone one what is tuned to 620+hp like mine.

If you read up on the science behind molybdenum disulfide it makes sense, adding a protection barrier against wear and damage to bearing surfaces. Again highly recommend this combo of LM 5-40 & LM Mos2 Tom mentioned above for the n63/s63 engine family.

For what it's worth, I am a fan of the Liqui Moly products and reached out to them. Their reply was to go for the Leichtlauf High Tech SAE 5W-40 as the best option.
