Carly app or BMW Scanner 2.1?

I'm looking to see what tool is best for my E70 X5M.

I use the BMW Scanner 1.4 (PaSoft) for my E39 but that won't work with me e70 X5M...

So which is recommended? Carly or BMW Scanner 2.1 for this platform? I'm looking to do some basic coding and read errors etc.

I've got the Bluetooth Carly and it's fine for basics- code read, param coding,etc

Painfully slow connectivity. Wonder if hardwired is faster..

Was wondering this same thing myself. Contemplating the Carly purchase but is there something better? In to see what others recommend.

Just get the K+Dcan cable and software?

Dawgz did you end up ordering the K+Dcan cable you mentioned above? Once it all comes in post up here and let me know what you think of it.

Yea, I just ordered it this afternoon.

I got the cable (44? 45?$), bought the master license (155 after taxes).

I was able to scan for codes reset my oil interval as I just did my oil change and hour ago.

I was unable to go to the coding menu in the comfort access part....I sent them an email, seems E70 X5M isn't fully supported....let's see what they say...

Jeez that would be a bummer if the M isn't fully supported. I really want to get something to do coding/registration of batteries and all that stuff with.

You can reset oil, brake, and service intervals through the dash w/ the odometer button which I did about a week ago when I did my oil - no scanner etc needed. Hopefully you will find out you can do more than scan codes and reset service intervals with what you purchased. When they get back to you let me know - hopefully they have some good news.

FWIW, the Carly app mist have been listening to me and greatly improved speed over the past week.

Either it's the app improved or my phone did...lol

The only thing that turns me off about the Carly app is the annual fee. But if it works better on the E70 X5 M than Protool I may just have to go that route.

BimmerGeeks support got me squared away. All is well now, all the functions I wanted work. Just coded the mirrors for fun and it's good to go. So easy to use.

I coded similar on the carly:

Remote windows up
Mirror fold
Flashy brake lights on aggressive braking
DVR in motion

I cant remember them all as it blends in with my audi adjustments. But ultimately Carly did what i wanted. And reads all my misfire , etc codes and clears them fast.

I found an old android tablet that I have so might get the Protool with Bluetooth adapter if you like the functionality.

Well when I reloaded the app today it said something was corrupt and wanted to redownload a file. BimmerGeeks support also added my VIN to their support but that should come in the next app update.

I think it's a nice app, costly, but it is what it is.

I'd do it again second time around. Good thing is I can use this for my E39 M5 too. I have PaSoft, INPA and all those apps for my M5.

Good to hear you'd do it again and that customer service was so responsive. Even though it isn't necessarily cheap I feel better about the up front cost of Protool than paying $80 for a Carly Bluetooth adapter and then $60 yearly subscription which just seems ridiculous.
