Fuel Pump Relay Diagnosis
Hi!
I’ve seemed to isolate my no start issue on the 2010 X5 3.0 to a faulty fuel pump relay, but in testing the relay all variables seem ok? I get Clicking when energizing the relay between 85/86 terminals, resistance across same terminals is 95ohms. 30/87 terminals are open when de-energized and closed when energized. I jumped the terminals on the relay connector and confirmed the fuel pump runs when energized. Then I checked the other points for DME voltage when cranking and get 9.0 volts or thereabouts. So that seems to be working. Just wondering before buying the $50 relay from my dealer, whether it may be something else? 20amp fuel pump fuse #150 is fine. Feedback is greatly appreciated. Paul |

Hi,
had similar issue, car sometimes just didn't start... Used the relay from my E39 (it got a couple of those for rear window heater etc) But it is actual just an universal relay with nice BMW logo on it, so you can buy a similar one for 5 bucks in any car parts shop. |

Thanks!
Yes it was a very quick repair, the relay was the issue. Gouged by my dealer $50 for the relay, but I needed it ASAP. Found it online and at other private bmw shops for $22 or go to a motorcycle BMW dealer for $24. Pretty much a monopoly o BMW parts in my city. Cheers! |
