Anyone Tried xDelete?

Really curious about this android based app. Seems pretty awesome to have full control over the xDrive system for only $150. Claims support for all E70/71 specs.

Has anyone tried this out?

Why would someone needs this? X5m is awd but at high speed more power is transfer to the rear or should i say its a rear wheel biased but awd when needed when slip occurs.

The idea with this though is that it's way less work and you can switch between AWD and RWD. Removing front axles is more of a "permanent" way to get RWD. This just leaves the clutch in the diff open so no power goes up front.

Not sure it's a question of need but more of a novelty I suppose? For only $150 just seems like something cool to mess around with.

I dont think its available for the cars with the 8 speed trans yet, only the 6sp autos.

A lot of people have messed with it in the E9X cars and it seems like it works well. I plan on doing it when it gets released.

Well the E70/71 is only available in 6spd auto. They're apparently releasing support for F-series vehicles some time this year.

I may have to just pull the trigger soon and try it out if no one on here has. Just seems like an option that should be available from the factory and some of the newer xDrive cars do have the ability to switch from AWD to RWD on the fly.

Negative. Early E70/71s may have come with 6spd but the LCI cars came with the 8spd that are found in the F series cars.

You're right - I was just talking specifically about E70 X5M. Forgot about the other specs with 8spd available.

So if I do this to my X5 35d would that not be to much power just to the rear diff?

That was fast! Did you already have a cable and just paid the $150 for the app license to give it a try?

Lighter steering was one thing I was wondering about - is it a pretty pronounced difference in feel? Having the ability to switch between RWD in good weather and back to AWD in adverse conditions just sounds amazing.

Please keep me posted with how you like it over the next couple weeks!

I flashed xdelete last week and it's completely changed the way my X5 drives now. The steering is lighter, less oversteer and I feel the power coming from the rear wheels. Flash took 1 min

I have always wanted to be able to do this so the moment I found out it was possible I couldn't wait to get home and get it done! Yes the difference in how light the steering is amazed me, I love it lol Yes I already had the cable so when I got home I gooked it up, as mentioned it literally took no time to install. I'll put it to the test for a little I'm just worried about my rear diff giving out since I have the Stage 2.9 tune and the Xhp tune as well so we will see how it goes! I will definitely keep updating!

Yea i love the fact that it can be switched back and forth at anytime desired, how are you liking it so far since you've had it installed much longer I'd like to hear your input!

I really like how the X5 feels in 2WD. The AWD is overly intrusive and feels like it is binding under power and turning. It is tuned for safety on slick roads and does not have different modes like more modern AWD does.

My 2WD experiment was because the dealer claimed I had a bad transfer case. So I disconnect the module (by the battery on pre-lci) and drove around for a few days. The problem did not go away so the dealer was not correct. And disconnecting the module also disables stability control and ABS (I think). But I liked it enough that I may try the app. They could call the app S-Drive .

I'm another interested person- I wonder if you'd notice an MPG increase over time, even 1mpg would make a differecne to me with how much I drive. But with the diesel, I'm REALLY concerned about my rear diff. Is the x5's rear diff up to handling 500ish torque through it? I'm Sutphin tcu, and about to be dudmd stage 2 (which dyno's comparably to JR 2.8 I believe). That's a lot of force going through just the rear diff, to move 5000 lbs...

I know its not apples to apples but from reading around in the E90 forums, the AWD and RWD cars use the same rear differential. Those that used xdelete did not suffer any consequences since the differential was built to handle the power and torque of the RWD car.

I would assume since some of these engines are shared between models, the differential power handling ability would be similar as well.

I read that too, which seems solid on the 335's, but the systems in the x5 are a bit different. I'm not sure if any of the V8 x5's came only in Sdrive, and therefore would prove that our x5 rear diff is up to 450+ torque on it's own.

Yea. Completely valid point. I threw it out there in case people smarter than me saw it had any idea if there were parts shared between the different model platforms. A lot of the parts around the diff are shared. The differential itself isnt the same but maybe some of the internals are? Or at least machined/manufactured to the same level?

This is interesting, curious how the X5M would drive in RWD mode. Might be a nice option in the summer months when AWD isn't needed as much.
