Ticking Noise - S63

Hi

On lower RPM there is a ticking noise(see video) do you know what it could be? An indy workshop says that the noise/fault is from the valvemechanism but could not pin point the exact problem.

Thank you very much

Noises are always tough to isolate. I suggest getting a stethoscope or long screwdriver and start poking around. Perhaps even an exhaust leak. Sometimes I have had to life the vehicle and poke around underneath. Or another shop for a 2nd.

Not really sure. Nothing sounds all that out of the ordinary to me. Some of the ticking you hear is the injectors. Can't really tell if there's anything in addition to that.

I had a ticking sound coming from the engine on my old X6 M. Turned out the bearings spun. Hope that isn't the issue for your truck.

Can't watch the video for some reason, but idle and low rpm clicking is usually just noisy lifters. Was the first thing I noticed leaving the dealer. Otherwise could be your HPFP/injectors. If no bad symptoms I wouldn't worry.

Well then we are two! But if it is diagnosed early, maybe its pssoble to just change the bearings?

Yes if diagnosed early then it might be repairable. That was what my mech said, unfortunately for me I brought it in too late.

Run the engine again, same noise or louder when you open the oil cap? Mine does this as well, I replaced my gas cap seal and it went away for alittle but but came back. I'm lost also, runs well but every once in a while going up hill or going over 150mph it check engines on me saying it's the intake manifold

Okey, so they didnt make much of it, other than the injector where loud. When I asked about rod bearings or timing chain, they refered to another indy shop which specialize in opening engines etc. When I called them, they asked if I could come by tomorow. So maybe I will get the final verdict then.

To summarise; the Indy i was in today didnt think that anything was out of the normal. So it wil be interesting to see/hear tomorow,

Did you open your oil cap while the engine is on see if it worse?

Hi

I did it today, and there is a strange noise when opening the oil cap that none of the guys had ever heard before. So they are going to contact a guy who has rebuild a couple of n63/s63 in the past, and have his opinion. They said they have never heard a rod bearing issue sound like this before, but then again, they have usualy worked on s65s. They told me to drive carefully home and that they would call me.

Yup, I have had that for the past 2 years. Every once in a while I clean it out with sea foam and it's alittle lighter. Also gas cap seal change out will keep the pressure and lighten the sound. It's weird I still run it like normal and no issues really. Let me know what they say I'm curious

It seemed like every x5m i looked at made the same noise. Its not injectors, the noise is very noticeable around the filtered air ducts. I actually saw a post on bmwtechnician that showed the flaps working in the filtered air ducts and it was the exact noise.

It doesnt sound to me like a rod bearing noise, its not deep enough, and the noise goes away as soon as you bring the rpms over idle. Im not a BMW tech but the principal operating condition of ICE engines havent changed much.

I've had the same noise for a couple of years as well, no issues. Subscribed.
