X6M oil filter change with oil in engine

I went to do an oil change and did not have the correct oil filter wrench. I put the new oil in and ordered the filter wrench.
When the wrench arrives, can I change the filter while the oil is still in the car?

Forgot to mention that the car is a 2011 X6M.

Yep, the filter head is higher than the pan level. You will obviously lose some oil, so make sure to check your level after.
