car is jerky while turning on slow speeds?

my car is 2011 X6 35i
30k miles odo

while turning the car on slow speeds
there is this jerky/ shuddering feel and sound

seems to be from the wheels/ transmission
the feeling is like the car is confused to which wheel the engine power is needed to be sent

what can be the possible problem?

It is most likely the transfer case actuator, seems to be relatively common for the plastic gear to strip, if the transfer case does not allow 'slip' front to back, the front tires will have to scrub or slip because they travel a different distance when turning than the rear, which caused the sensation you describe..

I've seen this one referenced before, but I can't seem to find the thread, or remember which forum it was on.

Be Aware, I don't KNOW that this is your issue, put it seems plausible given the described symptoms. Some Google searches should show up additional threads on multiple boards.

I haven't seen the issue on the e70/e71 series as much as the previous e53, but I have seen threads about it before..

Sorry to be so vague, hope that is of some help..

Are you running Bridgestone Dueler HP run flat tires?

If so, might need to replace the tires. This happened to me, replaced with Continental DWS's, much better. Something to do with the way the rubber wore.

You can pull the fuse to the transfer case motor, that would be quick way diagnose what is most likely the issue. On my xdrive50i it was in the trunk think it was labeled f92.

We went thru the exact same thing on our 2012 this past winter. I posted about it on one of the sites, not sure which.

Possibilities are actuator, actual transfer case or simply an oil change. In our case, an oil change cured the jerkiness. I was so relieved I bought our technical advisor a $100 Visa gift card.

The tyres can cause this if there non star rated and also if one tyre is approx 2/3worn and 2 are ready for replacement all 4 should be done.

This affects the transfer box due to wind up as the wheels are turning at different speeds due to size differences

Another easy way to check is slide underneath and bend the heat shield away near the transfer box and pull out the plug then road test. If the skipping has gone it's transfer box or tyres.

If you do unplug and drive you will get warning lights which USUALLY go out on restart but may need the steering turned lock to lock a few times to recalibrate steering angle sensor
