These cars are definitely different but I don’t think they are different enough for each of them to stand out on their own. It would be different if they were both sold under the same company since they both would bring in money regardless of which a buyer chooses. But BMW holds most if not all of the cards here and if the Supra is outselling the 2 series/M2 they can easily make them better so the sales shift in their direction. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I think this platform would have wasted potential if the Supra is held back by the M2 and the M2 is held back by the M4 and so on. If this sports car platform is as good as they say it is, shoot for the moon ya know?

I think I'd be fine with the 4 cyl but I've heard they're getting rid of certain options to cut price, such as leather and power seats. Those are a must for me.

That's a good point regarding long-term service. German cars depreciate so poorly and are so expensive to maintain, that either you sell them off to cut your losses or find a cheaper place to service them. I've started taking mine to an independent shop as well.

From what I've been able to see in the articles out on it, those things should be an option in some sort of premium package? Not totally sure though. A lot of the 4 cyl info has been conflicting. Looking forward to Toyota officially launching the page for the 2021 models with detailed specs. |

I believe the only option for the 2.0 is the driver assistance package. On the current 2020 Supra that is about $1.2k.
The issue is the starting price point. Its almost $43k, and if we start adding on hypothetical options I believe most people would rather just get the base 3.0 for $51k. Toyota is only projecting a 20% production and sale rate for the 2.0. I would be surprised if Toyota will met that goal. Most of the polling done on the Toyota side only show 10%-14% of future buyers opting for the 2.0, and that was before the pricing and packaging was released. |

According to FT86club's mod that did a Q&A with Tada that is a no go. At the moment, besides the driver assistance package, what you see is what you get when it comes to the 2.0. ToyotaUSA pretty much said the whole point of the 2.0 was keep the price tag down in order to expand pool of buyers.

Even we can probably say the same thing about Cayman GT4 vs. 911 GT3, like why can't Cayman GT4 get same engine as 911 GT3... |

But then you look at the front of the new 4er and the front of Supra starts to look great!

Well Toyota dealers are doing their best not to sell Supras.
I called on 5 dealers in NY - all had same answers: - No test drive until you agree to purchase the car with approved credit app - No discount off MSRP Then companies wonder why these cars sit on the lot causing automakers to eventually discontinue them. I hope everyone gets rid of dealerships and goes Tesla route. |
