I finally got to drive the beast today since installing the straight pipes the other day and I can't believe the difference between stock. Upon cold start, it now sounds like a Nascar being started, it literally took me by surprise with a loud explosion then deep and angry rumbling in my garage.
I set off almost every car alarm in my parking garage After it kicks down around 45 seconds later, I drove it until the oil temp got to around 210...it sounded louder than stock driving in just M Mode staying around 2-3k rpm's... once I got above 3k rpm and in Sport Mode, I noticed it got a lot louder and no longer sounded like a BMW, it sounded more exotic almost like a Viper and Ferrari combined. If anyone is looking to unleash their beast and get a shit eating grin from ear to ear, I HIGHLY recommend straight pipes! I can also hear the beast rev matching while down shifting a lot clearer now. I can't wait to get a set of down pipes and a tune so I can finally enjoy the beast the way it was meant to be Last edited by Cattivo; 02-23-2016 at 06:58 PM.. |

Get ready for even more loud when the downpipes arrive! I had the same (straight pipe) aural experience that you described above when I installed my downpipes. If you combo them, your truck really will sound like NASCAR! - LOL!

I was actually considering buying a 3rd X5(E53 4.8) to use as a winter beater but I'm not sure I wanna deal with a BMW with over 150k miles...I may just buy a cheap 4x4 since my M is a California truck and has never seen snow... I don't plan on driving the M this winter in NY's pot hole infested n over salted roads so she may just sit in the garage till spring I say go for a second X5...BUT judging by you n your wife's daily drivers, I think imho that a 35D will not fill that level of horsepower n excitement like your M and Benz do even though the X5D has lots of torque on a daily basis...I say get another M or a 50i Last edited by Cattivo; 09-29-2015 at 06:15 PM.. |

I've owned the 50i for a little over a year now and I'm sad to say it's starting to feel slow to me after driving a modded X5M...Your new N63 is a lot faster than your old 4 barrel 289, can't go wrong with either...enjoy |

Thanks, yea everything was drilled into the existing pedals, only thing I had to remove was the rubber break pad...the dead pedal I just used small self tapping screws to cover up the stock pedal, the gas pedal was plastic to my surprise...took me roughly 25 mins thanks to my OCD

Does anyone worry about warranty with tune and pipes? Mine is covered until 100K miles so quite a bit of miles left. |
