The world is on fire again. I effin’ despise these damn rioters and their willful disregard for everybody around them. We are going to be back on emergency deployments again, and we have a deputy down (…and we haven’t even fully recovered from last week’s Baldwin Park tragedy).

Do they ride sport bikes?

How do you go out on a date or become in a relationship with a law enforcement professional's hot and beautiful daughter?

Are suicide, alcoholism, and divorce truly common in law enforcement professionals' lives?

How clean of a background does one need to have to become a cop and a top-tier cop?

Is local, state, or federal better? Is one a better or much different experience than the other?

How morally sound does a law enforcement professional need to be or expected to be?

What's the best advice you can give for a long-term and gratifying/fulfilling career?

Is everyone in the public able to see your thread posting, or is this for some of the population only?

Are many of the online forum administrators and moderators law enforcement professionals?

I may add more questions... Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to help educate me and the public.

1. It varies, but my anecdotal answer is trucks, boats and desert toys. Those of us with BMW M’s, Porsches, or modded Japanese cars are the smaller percentage.
2. Another variable answer, but anecdotally most ride Harley’s or similar cruisers. Those of us riding Ducati’s or other sport bikes are the lower percentage.
3. Do what I did when I wasn’t sworn, but dated a cop’s daughter…….be respectful, don’t look like one of these knuckleheads in the street, and be liberal with your “Yes Sir’s” and “No Sir’s”.
4. Yes, suicide, alcoholism, etc. is prominent. For some, the stress and PTSD is insurmountable.
5. Ideally, you’re not squeaky clean, but clean enough. Squeaky clean people usually have no perspective, no street awareness, and have issues building rapport with criminals.
6. Local, Federal, and State are all good. They all pay well, but the scope of what they do is different. Which of the three is better depends on a person’s aptitude and personal goals. They all have different retirement programs, so that’s a consideration as well.
7. A solid moral base is a must. In this profession, you are tested constantly. You’re around the drugs, the money, the prostitutes…..you have power, influence, and the legal authority to take a life. We want good people.
8. Best advice: God first!….Family second!…be a good partner, handle business when you need to, and don’t be a coward. There’s always the chance that you will not make it home.

• Well, we swear to uphold the rule of law and protect others, usually at our own expense (…including death). That, alone, leans most towards being conservatives. There are other political leanings present in law enforcement, but they aren’t the majority.
• I have not ever personally seen nor experienced racism on the job. If I had to give it a temperature, absolutely mild.
• We are no more a gang than a military unit that serves together, cries together, experiences significant loss together, and bleeds together.
• Everything is political these days…….when it shouldn’t be.

What's the mindset of a person who wants to go into the law enforcement field and feels that nothing else in life will ever satisfy or fulfill that strong desire?

In general, the public has a sense of appreciation for people that serve in the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, etc. Do law enforcement professionals have the same sense of respect and appreciation, OR do law enforcement professionals always have their guard up and have some level of distrust even for the people that serve in those fields?

How badly do law enforcement professionals dislike not telling the truth?

Is there ever any valid or reasonable reason for not telling the truth?

How badly do LEOs dislike stealing even on the smallest scale?

What's the rough percentage of LEOs who believe in God and who do not believe in God?

How does military police differ?

Which branch of service provides the most mentally and physically fit law enforcement officers? Army, Marines, Navy, Navy SEALs, Air Force, etc.?

This riot and protester response is going to get out of control really quick - as far as I can tell, the federal agents are serving warrants...interfering with them is a whole different issue than when they are not serving warrants...I hope the protesters figure this one out really quick...if not, things are going to go south for them (and, unfortunately, everyone else) really quickly...

People should have paid attention to what was being taught in their high school civics class...basic life skills for good decision making...

• Low! Addicts don’t turn it around and become cops. I’m sure many have tried marijuana……maybe ecstasy if they were on the party scene, but you aren’t generally going to find meth, cocaine, fentanyl, etc. in a cop’s past. That is really hard, addictive stuff.
• Law enforcement is generally a calling. You have to be a rather selfless and patient person. You have to be willing to die on the sword to protect someone who may not even like you. Most people are not willing to risk themselves to save someone else, so…..nothing else really satisfies that desire except for another service field (…e.g…fire, military, etc.).
• A good chunk of law enforcement are ex-military veterans, so the short answer is yes.
• Nobody likes being lied to.
• Yes, to catch a bad person.
• Nobody likes a thief either, but much like a lie, everybody has stolen something.
• I don’t have any quantifiable way to measure faith, but I’ve never heard a cop verbalize a lack of belief.
• Military has it easier. Their rules of engagement are less stringent and less publicized; they aren’t under constant criticism by couch surfers who’ve never sacrificed themselves for somebody else.
• Military police have police powers only on military installations. They are not granted powers on the same level as law enforcement.
• Any/all of the special units have top notch examples, be it a Ranger, a SEAL, etc.
• I think you’re asking about the percentage of LEO’s who followed the footsteps of friends or family?!? If so, the percentages are high. Law enforcement “families” are a common thing.

My PID is no longer active, and I won't be able to retake/reapply for the TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) course since I requested voluntary termination.

You know where the problem is. Politicians allow protesters to commit crimes but then convince DAs to not prosecute to the fullest. Makes no difference if you arrest them. They walk no consequences. Change that equation and they might start to behave.

And IMO protesting wearing a mask should be a felony. If you show up at a protest masked up you intend to commit violence.

We have seen buses drive in & out. We’ve also seen pallets of things/objects in riot areas (…e.g. rocks, bricks, etc.). They are Soros funded.

When our county was being visited by NYC's chartered immigrant-relocation buses and tagalong protestors a few years ago, the sheriff and local police, um, found a way to make the bus companies not want to accept any more charters to our area.

On this coast, probably half of the charter buses out of NYC would fail a DOT safety inspection for something. Y'all can't find some PC to check the bus and driver paperwork?????

The thing is that we don’t see the buses that often. They mobilize quickly and the buses are out of there.

Content of character and actions does not have a label.

I don't think it's fair and accurate to blame a specific political party. These are select individuals that create a bad representation for the entirety of the group when the entire group should not be held responsible if they had nothing to do with the ill-advised actions. For example, not all law enforcement officers are the same, and some can make poor decisions where others can make more neutral or constructive/favorable decisions.

The same can be said about a specific religion, race, gender, etc. There are only people, and they make either good decisions or bad decisions. It will never be fair to blame an entire group for select individuals' actions.
