I never said I was a exhaust specialist but don't need to be one to know that Megan exhaust doesn't sound like Meisterschaft , Meisterschaft doesn't sound like Fabspeed, Fabspeed doesn't sound like Eisenmann, Eisenmann doesn't sound like Akrapovic with or without catless downpipes cause they are designed different so I'm not sure what you're talking about Cattivo and apparently you don't either. I do understand that videos aren't always the most accurate but frankenm"s video sounded the same as it did in person. If you wanted to just have the loudest and the cheapest exhaust option then you have the right one but if someone is looking for something louder with a better exhaust note but not obnoxiously loud that still sounds good and doesn't piss everyone off you drive by like your neighbors then it isn't the best for most people. Like you said though Cattivo, the straight pipe with no catless downpipes might be another good option too BUT I loooove catless downpipes so not for me.

I am so confused with all the info and after all this still have no idea as to what I should do. Almost makes it not worth it and should just leave it stock.
I guess one thing is for sure; I am not in favour of dropping over a grand on an exhaust system no matter what. That too Canadian. So the only one in the price range is Megan and from what I understand it makes no sense to do that. So the only thing remains is what can I do to the stock system to have a deeper, louder note but without drone and not obnoxiously loud. I'd like a deeper noise even regular driving but noticeably deep when gunning it. Since you can't exactly keep cutting and welding the exhaust, I'd ideally like to get it right the first time. |

I was just pointing out that it's crazy that people pay all this money for exhaust pipe! I'll make everyone on the boards a deal. Send $5 to vladantv@aol.com I will post and track payments and who they're from. I will also match every $5 dollars I receive. So, if we come up with $50, I'll match it. I will then take my X5M to my local shop and pay the guy for a day rate to just literally cut and weld different things. We can try different combinations until we have something that works. I'll video document it all. This will be our collective contribution to the community. We'll have a video diary of different resonators and mufflers and combinations to see what sounds good, and what sounds like crap. Then you guys can stop bickering like a bunch of schoolgirls. Also, I got the Eisenmann because I love the sound it made on the AMG platform. Sounds nothing like it here. |

When I had my c63 AMG the exhaust was least of my worries as it sounded sick to begin with. Then I got the e92 m3 with Dinan on it so that took care of that.
But this x5m is way too quiet for what I've been used to |

ksa, picking an exhaust was a tough decision for me too. The stock exhaust mod RobNY did that you were thinking about is probably your best bet in regards to low cost and a deeper aggressive sound when in M mode that you want keeping the exhaust valves. Shouldn't cost more than $400-500 to do it.

I bought mine and the original owner had the Megan exhaust already installed. I thought about replacing it with a better brand cause I'm all for good quality but honestly I think it sounds awesome. It has a deep loud sound when your really on it and when just cruising around not too noticeable, anyone whos ridden in my ride has commented on how good it sounds. On cold start its loud enough and in the evenings if it were any louder the neighbors would know every time I was leaving. I actually don't mind the tips either cause most of it sits under the diffuser so you don't see much of it just a larger opening still a lot better than stock tips which I think are way too small.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, it is a good option if your on a budget or don't want to spend money on something else considering the other options are anywhere from 3-10 times the cost. If it is any better is a matter of opinion, I personally didn't get it because I didn't like the sound. |

Has anyone done just the muffler delete? Found a video on youtube but not long enough. Want to know if there's drone etc or if it sounds good.

This forum is going to shit with the new kids on the block. Utter misleading garbage is being spewed. This thread is trash. Didn't you put stickers all over your truck and wrap the reflectors in vinyl? To any members that were mislead in the thread please revert to the thread below where many original owners of this truck, all who purchased it new for 100k, praised the Megan exhaust and all put it on their truck in 2012 and then reviewed it positivly. Don't let anyone fool you with their misinformed opinion. http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...=Megan+exhaust |

There is so much hate so much on the fabspeed exhaust for being overpriced when stuff like the Vorsteiner and IND parts are way overpriced but everyone eats them up and praises them all day long. |

Heres an experienced modder's take on it. Travis has a very strong background in modifying cars and is well in touch with quality and costs. M5James is good as well, and is always looking for other options. http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...&postcount=149 That thread has is all anyone needs in regards to X5M exhaust mods. The general consensus is; modified stock exhaust is the best option. It gives you great raw sound but with the option to keep valves and run in quiet-er mode and the best part is it only costs $350. All the after market exhausts I've heard in person sound similar. I've heard stock (obviously), modified stock, Megan and Eisenmann and for the most part they sound VERY similar with Stock being a quieted version of the Megan but with a similar note. http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...=megan+exhaust What annoyed me; We can't just sit here and lead other members into purchases based on biases. The advice should be; Catless dp's and get the stock exhaust modified, then go from there. I guarantee you will be MORE than happy with the stock modded vs paying $500 for Megan, $1.5k for Fabspeed, 3k for Eisenmann or 6k for Akra. When given no choice I spare no expense with my truck, but when I can, I find the best option in terms of price and performance. If it was worth it to have a pricey exhaust, I would have it, but every purchase has to be justified. Ksa - Please heed my advice, as overpaying for an exhaust will be supremely unsatisfying. Do yourself a favor, get all your other mods done first; DP's, tune with cold start delete and then grab your exhaust - starting with the stock mod. I will tell you this though; the S63 is not a great sounding engine because of the exhaust manifold setup, so don't ever expect it to sound even as good as the N63, unfortunately. My X5M sounds very good but my 335i sounded much much better. To anyone that can grab an 7k Akra with no worries, thats awesome, I wish I had such ample moding funds but I admit I don't. That being said; i'm pretty sure with most of the guys in the secondary X5M market, this is also the case. Sorry if this came across like a dick but this thread is frustrating. Hop over to the other thread and read up and maybe pm a few members. |

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I am contemplating two things; either to just go with Megan and live with whatever it does or do the stock mod that RobNY did in the mufflers. The latter is harder as it's hard to find a shop that does. I never did hear back from my exhaust guy on that so maybe will just go with the Megan as it seems like the easier option.
Just debating around. You guys know of websites where I can order exhausts like Megan from? The ones that actually ship to Canada and don't screw you over in the way? Thanks |

Way too much confusion around this whole thing. I guess I need to see if I am willing to lose that feature. If I go with Megan either it'll be black or plain silver. Not burnt ones they look a little cheap. |
